Just have to share this with you all...

...the ex just picked up our son to spend a couple days with him before the rollover and was questioning me about where we are gonna be New Year's Eve. She was expressing concern about me scaring him that night with whatever my plans were for the midnight hour and she wanted to be able to call him to wish him a Happy New Year. There was some more, blah, blah, blah, and she said she was on the internet all day researching y2k (kinda insinuating that she in now an expert on the subject at hand) and was not worried about the ramifications of the "event" other than the crazies. I told her our son was worried about her not having any food or water stored and no backup heating source and blah, blah, blah. She told him she was going to go Wed. and buy a little food and water. Damn, why did I spend months researching y2k when all I had to do was cruise the internet on Dec. 27th 1999!..lol

Vern-

A big cyberhug to you. As a fellow parent, I know your situation would be so hard.....

Blessings...Mary

Still, it's better she is doing some preparing now rather than trying to Jan. 1.

Truly sincere,

Frank

In a few days Vern, you will have to listen to your Ex calling you a fool...get ready for the scorn. You sound like a stable individual and will get through it. Many others will suffer mental disorders and not be able to handle the reality that is Y2K.

tell your "ex" that she is a $2 whore.

Just got off the phone with a friend who "doesn't believe in y2k." Like it's some giant muffin threatening to destroy the city... but if you don't believe in it, it can't possibly hurt you! Wow.

Then earlier today, on a local radio program, they were discussing what happens if 911 isn't working & someone tries to break into your home. The talk-dj was trying to press the "gun" button, but one caller said he would just... dial the regular police number instead! Problem solved! What a genius. The idea that the line might be dead, apparently occurred to no one.

Giant muffins don't kill phone lines, do they?

i know that this probably doesn't have much to do with your ex, but does anyone know what the penalties are if i (under the age of 21) get a handgun illegaly and use it to protect myself? just curious

OK - let's take a vote. How many of us already knew that "duckboy" was under 21??

Wish I had only spent a few hours of my time researching the info available for all, and I mean ALL, of the potential problems we might soon face.

Darn, I've had access to a computer and the internet for years and I could have discovered everything in a last minute search for info. I'm an idiot, what a waste of time these last ten/twenty months have been, argh!!!!

I could have been playing games online, hanging around in romance chat rooms, could have checked out a few voyeuristic porn sites, (After all, everybody tells me that's what the net is for) darn, darn, darn, to think of all the time I've wasted trying to make sure I (and mine)survive what apparently is nothing to be worried about. Some years, I guess, I just get out of the wrong side of the bed, thank goodness, the year's about to end.

Maybe I'll make better use of my time next year. Let's all hope so!

Yes, Judea, I'd already guessed.

DuCkBoY, you answered your own question. "...get a handgun illegaly..."

And Vern, if y'all live south of the Masion-Dixon line that's

"Just have to share this with y'all... " not "Just have to share this with you all... " ;-)

Duckboy- The only time you would have to worry about breaking the law, is if you actually shoot someone (or something) with the gun. Hammers, axes, machettes, 2x4's and the like are quite legal, effective and with a little practice- deadly. Ya just have to add the element of surprise ! Besides, killing from a distance removes the personal touch. I find crying into ones hands is a good ploy to catch someone off guard. (especially if you are young).

DuckBoy, Get a pepper spray and stun gun! Or make your own pepper spray with a squirt gun (supersquirter maybe) and cayenne pepper stuff from the grocery.

Speaking of DGI, I had dinner with an electrical engineer who teaches at a university. VERY DGI!!! Yikes. His wife is worried, but he says everything will be okay. I told him about the IEEE statement to the Senate and Dale Way's essay. And embeddeds in the oil wells...
