Will the bathtubs freeze??

I'd like to fill the bathtubs and laundry room sink with water before Y2K. My husband says they will freeze if there is no electricity. (We will have heat only in 2 rooms on the lower level). We do have alternate water supply in the basement.

Are any of you filling your tubs and sinks??

I wasn't planning on it - might if the power goes out and the water supply seems threatened. There's quite a bit of water locally here in water towers, so we should get enough warning. And we'd only use this water for toilet flushing - have in excess of 700 gallons between water bags & 5 & 7 gallon containers, so we'd use those for potable water.

Since you have an alternate water supply, you can probably do w/o filling them. If you lose heat to those areas, you will have to either drain those pipes or leave the faucets drip to prevent pipe freezing. It'd be a good idea to hit Home Depot (or similar) and get a gallon or two of RV Antifreeze - it's non-toxic, and you can pour it in the toilet to prevent that from freezing up if necessary (and cheap - less than $1.50/gallon.)

I'm filling my 2 bathtubs up, to be used solely for flushing. I'm on septic, and have wood heat, so no problem there. Have a hand pump well and streams thru property, so water shouldn't be a problem. I got one of those hang-em-up solar shower bags, can pour water heated on wood stove into them. Better than a spit bath!

Why not put some propolene glycol ( RV antifreeze) in the tub? Tub water is used to flush not for drinking so why not make sure the water doesn't freeze? Yes, it would freeze if it was filled with just water. Pam
