Finally off to my bunker in the hills...WEIRD!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I've been preparing a y2k safe-haven in North Carolina for over a year and a half, and FINALLY I am actually off. I currently live in Miami with my family. I remember thinking how much it would suck if I could not get up to North Carolina due to panic or early martial law or whatever...YEAH RIGHT!!! I certainly don't worry about that anymore! It's kind of weird, but as we get closer and closer to the rollover, I feel less and less like it will be TEOTWAWKI. Can't explain it, but I guess it's no longer an interesting discussion about what will happen in the future, but rather what will happen in a FEW DAYS. The concept that civilization as we know it is about to end is just so ridiculous, that even I (a BIGTIME hardcore doomer) am starting to think that it won't be that bad...can't explain it, but that's how I feel. Anyway, I have REALLY enjoyed this forum, and I would like to wish you all the best of luck in the coming days. I don't have a computer where I'm going, but hopefully I'll be able to find an internet cafe or something (yeah right). Anyway, in case I am unable to post again in the future, have a happy new year. I'll see you on the other side.

orson: I know exactly how you feel. I have been prepping for a year now and am as ready as I am going to get. I am not heading out, will hold down the fort. I don't have any dreams about bad times. I know the news and reports are worst than I figured they would be by now, but I can't really sai that I *feel* that it will be TEOTWAWKI. But the information we are getting says it will be. I think it is *hoping* fot the best.

Orson...

Why not wait until the first to travel? Traffic should be light with everyone watching the bowl games and nursing hangovers.

TEOTWAWKI or not TEOTWAWKI, that is the question which will be answered for all of us in the near future...

I don't feel like that things will fall apart either, at this point, but it could just be wishful thinking. Locked and loaded anyway.

Be well Orson!

Orson, dress warm, it is cold as heck here in NC at this time. Drop a quick line if you wish, to exchange a hello. You must be about the only "snow bird" returning north at this time! :-)

Good luck, NC, is I believe a good choice...we chose it 17 years ago for this reason.

Usually the only thing that allows me to think---no big problem is when I take my eyes off of the technical reports that our purporting pathetic remediation in other countries. Saudia,Venezuela,Nigeria. Or when I havent read a credible report for a couple days.

The siren song of nice house, heat, food, money, job, business and the other 99.9% of society our extremely hard to resist!!

From Dale Way to Ed Yourdon

-Snip- ""we are going to run this ship into the iceberg and not say a thing until the SCREAMING starts and then say we did all we could to get compliant. WE WILL BURN IN HELL""

-end snip-

Never has a greater mental dichotomy existed (for those who've studied) than the Current society we live in ,that is supported by computers, and the potential society that could exist after a Fri. turns into a Sat. for the entire population.

Orson,

I second that emotion. Just a feeling, maybe wishful thinking, but I don't think there will be a TEOTWAWKI. Good luck in NC. IMO, NC is preferable to Miami no matter what. Say hi to Mr Kane.

More of a question than an answer. New to the forum, would someone please tell me what TEOTWAWKI means

Each day is TEOTWAWKI. Each day. What we know is yesterday. What we are is today. Tomorrow is in the hands of the one who created time itself. Nobody, throughout the course of history has KNOWN what tomorrow will bring.

NTL... When you wake up Janurary 1st 2000 and all seems well... wait a few days to see how things are going. TEOTWAWKI is a daily occurance. It may very well be that the world is much different come election time next year, inspite of what on Janurary, first looks quite optimistic... If may very well be....

i know what you mean. i feel like a freak and i have so much crap in my home to prove it. yet, somehow i think what we are experiencing is not a new feeling and i think there are likely many historic examples of where a person knew something was coming, prepared, and then it came the day after a normal day. know what i mean. one day everything is normal--the next day things will never be the same?!!

Best wishes to you and yours! NC higher altitudes can be like the alps, so you shouldn't get too many refugees I would think.

My feelings are the opposite of you optimists, heh. Because folks are not prepping, because I now have 2 good friends going to Times Square due to confirmation of the 2000 bodybag report, so they think it will be the party of the millenium...It feels worse, not better.
