Does anyone know what the status is on the nuclear power plants in Phoenix?

From my electricity research, I have been able to ascertain that Palo Verde Nuclear, one of the second largest nuclear reactors in the US was one of three that were slated for a "special audit". The reasons given by NRC/NERC for this are that Palo Verde is a newer plant hence digital controls and systems abound.

You could start at NERC's website and begin searching around. Suffice it to say that the results of the "special audit" were never made public. I have also heard from my sister, who lives in Phx area, that security is being beefed way, way up. I see this as a good thing.

Anyway, I would start at NERC and then try Rick Cowles www.euy2k.com you'll have to email him to get a password, but by far that forum is the best info on 'juice' in the US. Lots of good info.

Good luck.

Gordo-

We should ask LadyLoser about Palo Verde; as well as being one of the most well-informed people in the world, she is an EXPERT in nuclear power. Plus it's right in her backyard.

I'm sure she's not worried though......after all, uranium is a fossil fuel, right?

Or perhaps Uncle Bob or Daddy might know a thing or two about Nuke Power. Those boys are the be all and end all of energy from what I hear.

"My daddy drove by Palo Verde once when they was a building it, and he told me not to worry my pretty little head about it. Them nuclear reactors is built to last, like oil wells in Oklahoma!"

Palo Verde is not in Phoenix but a considerable distance to the west of downtown Phoenix at least 40 miles.

Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station is the largest Nuke in the world. On paper, it is number three. However, it is now routinely operated at more than 110% capacity (with the blessing of the NRC), thereby dwarfing Chernobyl and St. Petersburg.

My understanding is that it is ALL compliant, and the "audits" are run periodically to detect any unauthorized software which may have been loaded to compromise the system.

The biggest risk that Palo Verde poses to Phoenix is that the FEDS, after rollover, may seek to glom it's output to send to states with Democrat governors who may be having electrical difficulties.

FYI - Rick Cowles is not giving out any more passwords until after the rollover. Email me privately and I will give you mine....happy reading.

On second thought, I withdraw that offer of sharing my password. I know better than that. My big heart got the best of me for a split second.

Rick, if you are lurking about, please accept my humblist (sp) apologies. It was a weak moment. My password is still secure. But if you feel the need to yank it, it would be well deserved for my stupidity and momentary lapse in judgement.

"Nuclear Power Plants in Phx" I predict that they will rise from their ashes. I hope that none of them are named Thunderbird!

Best wishes,,,,
