OT: The night before...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The moon is out and so is most of the family. Christmas Eve is quiet, the lull before the nieces, nephews and grands rip into their gifts tomorrow. The turkey and the ham are ready to go into the oven before joining Aunt Boopie's jello salad and my sisters green beans. I forgot the whipped cream, but I don't think anyone will notice.

My son is wrapping the last of his presents in my room, using up my scotch tape and wrapping paper. Presents bought with his hard-earned money, standing on his feet slinging drinks after long days in school. Mom had a little too much wine and is chatting with the cat. The twin cousins are tucked into the couch, wound around each other like little angels. The dogs are lying under my desk, full of stolen Christmas cookies and bits pirated from the children.

The fire has almost burned down, and the Christmas tree, decorated with ancient ornaments, handmade macaroni stars and twinkle lights, smells spicy and good. Someone put those carol singing dogs on the CD, tired of my Nat King Cole and Vienna Boys Choir. I realize how much I love the sounds of my family.

It's almost Christmas.

Merry Christmas to each and every one of you. To wish 'Peace On Earth' seems particularly appropriate tonight. God Bless and good cheer to all of you and those you love.

Same to you Casey. The situation at the Kook Manor is similar. We just brought in the last of the gifts for the grandKooks, daughter Kook is sitting here with us, admiring the pile of Kook booty. Everything seems so normal, happy, and peaceful.

If light of what we may all be facing in 6 days, it seems more precious than ever. We appreciate everything more: hot showers, cocoa with marshmallows, football, non-generic Prozac, etc.

Lets not forget the reason for the season, the Man who was God, who made it possible for even Kooks to go to Heaven.

Thanks to Casey and Kook for your charming stories! It's been Christmas here now for 64 minutes, so I am overdue in wishing you and all here the best this holiday has to offer. Sounds like Casey and Kook have found that already:)

Merry Christmas to all, and blessings to you and yours as we begin this venture now.

"And the Word was made flesh. and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."

"...Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."

A very merry and peaceful Christmas to all!

It seems so strange, since I have become so addicted to this thing Y2K and absorbing all the wisdom on the board, and there is so much, and suddenly realizing what we all as human brothers and sisters are facing, life becomes so precious, and I also live each moment to it's fullest, enjoying the love I get and the love I give. Suddenly all else seems so abstract, so distant, only the love of my family, living each moment as if it were the last. I think this whole think has been a very good learning experience for me. I think that I can even now accept my wife's brother that is an inmate, or rather patient at a nursing home. I have had to really suffer this one out. He is a hard one to take, but I love my wife dearly, and I would not want her to remember me as one who would not accept her brother. If I am able to overcome this, then love will have conquered all in my life. A merry Christmas to all, and a very good and happy new year as well.

Depending upon your state of mind, a cat can be a most charming and focused conversational companion. They are great listeners!

A good post Casey. Merry Christmas and warmest holiday wishes to all!

Well, of course a Siamese is too snooty to be comfortable with, but a tabby alley cat can talk your ears off. Lots of practical experiences to share as well, like what garbage cans have the best scraps, etc.

If I could just get my dog to shut the heck up!
