Thoughts on a busy Walmart

Had to make a last minute run to walmart this afternoon for the wifes christmas dinner. I was really shocked! Strolled down those isles and was amazed at the bare and thin shelves... Gives you some reality as to how thin the supply is due to Just-In-Time. I got the last bag marshmellows, the last box post raisin-bran, and third to last bag of charcoal... and couldnt help passing up the HUGE deals they had on a few more canned items. Seems for some reason, walmart has these really cheap deals on canned items with some items off 50 cents... the shelves were just cleaned out Event the pepsi's and cokes are down to 88 cents in 2 liters, with walmart brands going for 58 cents.

No... it wasn't y2k stocking, at least not to any extent i could see, cause the lantern fuel/kerosene and lamps were all in ample supply... they even had lamps on 2 rows... So i guess it was just the christmas run (for the one day holiday in which they will be closed) coupled with the super low prices. But shelf after shelf had way depeted items or items of only a few each.

But what shocked me was think if things really get scary just before the new years... An early terroist act, or perhaps some serious computer news, or even government actions.... then it will really clean out! If you have procastinated for your last minute stuff like those hurricane prepers do here in florida... i suggest you don't wait. --- Those shelves are not very deep any more. They just pull the stuff to the front and hide the empty space behind....

Was anyone else shocked at how much food cleared out for christmas????? Your thougths please!

Normally a three day rotation on popular stocks (foods, etc,). During the busy times (Christmas) they are on a continual cycle, bringing stock from delivery trucks and from the "boxes" stored outside. This little "convenience" won't be the case if and when the failures become the reality. Two days run on a Super Walmart and you can bet you will find NOTHING. No trucks coming in for replentishment, storage units outside depleted. Two days may be a little gracious at that. Good luck all. We're down to the wire.

Was in Foods 4 Less today and there were empty shelf space everywhere. However, plenty of frozen food items. WalMart has been out of propane cylinders, stove fuel, oil and oil lamps. If they don't restock those shelves by 1/1/2000 theyezz in deep doodoo.

My Walmart was wiped on fireplace tools and those wax pressed sawdust logs. Campng section had an end isle display on Coleman stoves, boxes deep, but only about 3 cans of fuel in the store. All other burners/stove sold out, except these freshly stocked units probably from a recent shipment.

Got more trailers outside than ever before, with more coming in today. Never saw anyone go and unload any, and I'm a reg there during the restocking twilight hour. Yet here come in more trailers, stacked back to the edge of the lot. Hope it's water and cigaretts:)

Folks looked paniced in there today, but I guess late shoppers would be anyway, don't know--never went out on Eve.

Here in Cleburne,Texas the Wal-Mart here has so much on sale that I just know it has to be for Y2K. For example, there was canned soups for .50 a can. Chile, beans, and rice were all on sale right in the middle isle of the store. Oil lamps were on the end cap. And bottled water in the center of the isle too. I've never seen this type of food and water in the center isle all together. It seemed very strange to me here in this small town. The bad thing was that it was fully stocked and not hardly a dent in the water at all. sigh.
