Power outage in Ft Worth, Tx

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

There was a power outage in Fort Worth this morning. All of downtown and west Fort Worth was out of power. The cause was unknown however three feeder lines went down. This was reported on several local news stations. Might be Y2K related and might not, but we are definately in the drift time for chips..... No problems for me, I have power as long as the sun shines..... :)

Also local Walmart here is totally sold out of propane canasters and the camping stoves have taken a big hit. Guess somebody gets it. Its going to be a very interesting week ahead! With all this stuff already being sold out, the DGIs are giong to be in deep poopoo if things get bad.

Yes power has been restored, still not sure what caused it. I can't get any information, the news stations are all tight lipped about this now. Its like it never happened. Any one else hear anything????

Went to TXU's website to see if they had anything to say about it. Nothing there, however they did do a communications test on 9/9 and 11/18, did nothing to verify power systems would work. Its good to know if anything happens at least they will still be able to talk to each other...... Check it out here

Here in Houston i on a news segment that a squirrel somehow started it and then the power company had to shut down more of the grid.

I wish the Squirrel King could get these rogue factions under control. It must be hurting the cause.

I spoke with my brother-in-law who is a higher level person at TXU. He had was not at work today and had not heard anything about. He did say that "it should not have happened because that area is supplied by many different sources for power." He will look into and I will post an answer when I get one.
