Stock Market problems...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

On my way to work this morning, I heard on WTAM radio Cleveland a newsbite that said the stock markets "Might have a larger problem than Y2K." The newsguy quoted a Wall Street spokesman that said volume and volatility have caused numerous problems in their computer systems including LOST and INVALID data.

My first thought was that they'll explain it as ANYTHING except Y2K related problems.

Can anyone confirm this? I tried looking around at AP and Reuters but didn't find it.

Maybe the news servers are suffering the same losses. I blame all those foreign hacker/terrorists. And the French, of course.

don't know about that.. but I found something ODD! Tried searching Reuters/UPI for "stock" from the Drudge report site

I have no idea what it means, but notice that the source is always (PR newswire). Clicking ahead to "next 10" a couple of times, I see that the pattern continues with all the PR Newswire stories - the posting date at the bottom counting backwards from the Jan. dates until it gets to TODAY, Dec 23rd with this post:

NYSE Closing, Thursday, September 23 (PR Newswire) FIVE MOST ACTIVE STOCKS TRADED TODAY: Volume By Dollar Stock Amount America Online 14,752,500 $ 1,346.6 International Business Machine 6,151,100 $ 770. - Dec 23 5:27 PM EST

Then it starts with correctly dated current news stories from other sources... including some with the correct date from PR Newswire. Still don't see the story you mentioned above though.

Try it yourselves.. see if you get the same thing.

Try ABC news-that's the one most radio stations use
