New Year's Eve cruises canceled Wednesday, 22 December 1999 19:46 (GMT)

(UPI Focus) New Year's Eve cruises canceled NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 22 (UPI) - Gamblers won't be able to ring in the new millennium cruising on Louisiana's riverboat casinos.

State police have announced the companies have been told to cancel cruises between 11 p.m. CST on Dec. 31 and 1 a.m. CST on Jan. 1 for safety reasons.

Lt. Dane Morgan said Tuesday the worry is not the 13 riverboats, which are not expected to have year 2000 computer problems, but foreign ships that might have navigation or computer problems on the Mississippi River.

Morgan told the state Gaming Control Board in Baton Rouge that the decision to cancel the cruises was made "solely for the protection of the passengers, employees and crews" on the riverboats.

State police will be working on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day torespond to computer-related problems.

Wouldn't it make a little more sense to keep the foreign ships that might have problems off of the river instead?

WHAT THE **** IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!?!?

Who's this Dane Morgan guy, and where's Ronnie Jones? Hey, Ronnie, did you get promoted?

Hey Clyde Don't you get it ? What is wrong is everything, except anything which could remotely be related to our government not being prepared. So, those damnable foreigners are screwing things up....either not compliant, or terrorists, or hackers, or whatever story can be concocted to remove blame from a more likely cause. Whatever is left over is caused by a militia, Christians, domestic terrorists, Republicans, or people not doing what they were told to do.

Local newscast at 5pm. Female reporter from my area speculates on why so many of the local events are showing promise of poor turnout. She says it is her opinion that the big community parties are getting poor support because "there are so many other festivities that poeple will be going to that nigh".

When asked by her news companion if she thought maybe it could be that "people are just staying home ?", the first replied, "No, no they are just going to all the other parties, that's all".

LIARS ! (LOL)
