From what I gather, in 10 days the entire world's industries will shut down voluntarily for 8-10 hours.

It will be a very quiet news years indeed. The question is, will the major untilities follow the gov. and big business in shutting down their 'puters?

Whoo, good question. My knee jerk response was "No way!" until I remembered that they've all been claiming that they can run on manual if they have to.

Now if that's true, then they could shut them down, couldn't they? In fact, it might be viewed as being prudent. Will they?

Good question indeed.

It's no secret. Nearly EVERY non-critical manufacturing plant I am aware of IS shutting down and they've made no secret of it. Obviously they deem it prudent.

Remember that anamagram?

YEAR TWO THOUSAND = A YEAR TO SHUT DOWN

BTW simply shutting down equipment that has been running for years on end will result in some of that equipment not coming back from the dead when powered on again. Recently happened here, but I can;t remember any details about it...sorry.
