Y2K and Natural Disasters & Venezulia--Get It!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Y2K is a know risk. It takes conscious effort to prepare over the noise of the daily AOK dribble and walk of life. To ignore can be fatal. Venezulia flood victims according to the news last night thought the rain and flood season was finished and then in a few short hours 20,000 and maybe 30,000 are dead...My local town had a major fire, major grocery store destroyed and fire nearly got away on roof of very large wooden grain elevator Co. If the grain elevators went the centre of town was next. By morning we were minus one of three food suppliers and very little water or pressure was left in the system for the morning shower---which was a great shock...........hello...anyone home upstairs. When and How and Where Y2K hits you personally will be like a hard cold slap in the face. Your either ready with a plan or you may be DEAD in the morning!!!!!!! Do you get it? Pull your seat belt tight and hang on; here we go. Good Luck, Merry Christmas, and God Bless and Keep you safe.

They could be up to 50,000 dead now, 200,000+ homeless. :(

Here's a question: how much aid is going there, and where is it coming from if (e.g.) North America is behind-the-scenes prepping on a national scale? What about other national Red Crosses - are they trying to send aid, or sitting tight?

I have no doubt people will take offence at these questions in two ways ("of course we should send aid you heartless fiend" / "screw em, we'll need it soon, you bleeding heart liberal"), so I might as well make my position clear - I'm the bleeding heart liberal. I'd like to see aid going there. They need it, right now, today. We might not need it. Flame away.

I'm a conservative, as in Constitutionalist, liberals don't have the corner on compassion. If we have the ability to aid people in distress it is our duty as a nation to do so. It crosses the political spectrum.

Yes, we're sending food aid and military help for rescuing people. I'm a bleeding heart liberal, but I wonder if we will be starving next year and need the food. Oh well, I guess first things first.
