I am trying to Make a back-up copy.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have just purchased 3 videocds from videocds.com They work fine, but I wanted to make backup copies to a CD-R. When I try to do it, (by the way I am using Easy Cd creater), I get an error and the error says that there isn't enough space on the CDR disk to copy it to. But in reality, the original VCD has only 560 megs recorded on it. Is this some kind of copyright protection?? The only reason I am trying to copy is incase my originals become damaged.

Thanks in Advance, Dustin

You have two choices here: either bulldoze your way with Easy CD and get 80-minute CD-R media to disc-copy with, or open VCD Creator and include the contents of the MPEGAV and SEGMENT directories as items in your VCD layout to create a VCD from the ground up. Easy CD accepts .dat files from existing VCDs as source items. If, for some reason it doesn't want to or acts up by putting everything in the SEGMENT folder you then have to convert first those .dat files to .mpg with command line apps floating around the WWW like dat2mpg and VCDGear1.4.

Easy CD Creator is very good for storing PC computer data, making audio and video CDs, but poor in copying compact discs.

Padus Discjuggler is best s/w for copying discs and Nero is O.K.

In backing up VCDs, you do not copy by files. Hence, files sizes are not relevant at all.

Correct methods are:

a) Do a disc to disc(CD-R) copy or;

b) Do a disc to image(HD) copy and subsequently do a image(HD) to disc (CD-R) copy.
