I've done my bit, I clean out the shelf every time I go to the store. Unfortunately, that doesnt mean much, I've only gotten 12 boxes so far......

I should just put in a special order with the store manager.

By the way, I've been getting the 2% milk. There's usually plenty of the 1% on the shelf.

The Army used to (don't know if they still do) have a contract with the Parmalat folks. We'd get the stuff when I was in the field with the 101st Airborne. Crates of the stuff. So much of the stuff we came up with a little game when we were bored called "The Parmalat Challenge". This consisted of being able to drink a gallon equivalent of parmalat (16 or 18 little boxes) within one timed hour without barfing. This became so widespread that the Brigade Commander put up a 3 day weekend pass to the guy who could do it. No one ever could...one of the medic said its because the stuff is really hard to digest cause it's super pasturized.

Somewhat OT but what the hell its a slow day at work, and the Parmalat story brought back some funny memories.

Parmalat has been relatively scarce at my local supermarket since about late August, which makes sense since it has about a 5-month sell-by date. I count myself lucky to have found 3 packs of 3 boxes of whole milk today, although I can never lay hands on the large boxes any more. The manager says he just can't keep it on the shelves.

I just couldn't bring myself to drink it.

Glad to hear it. I've been trying to turn people on to Parmalat for years.

Unlike whole dry milk, the whole milk Parmalat will keep best on the shelf.

I used to keep about four gallons of it at all times on the shelf but slowly went over entirely to dry milk as it has a longer shelf life. Parmalat is good for making the transition though.

If you contact restaurant/institutional foods suppliers there's even Parmalat cream. I had a quart of heavy cream from them as a sample from one company I dealt with. Wasn't bad stuff.

I have never heard of this stuff. Where do you look for it at the store??? With Dry milk?

Try looking in the Coffee section, near the non-dairy creamers. I have maybe 15 gallons of the stuff (for the kids) in addition to some dry milk. I've used it from time to time and it's not bad. If you have it cold you _almost_ can't taste the difference.

I bought some of the whole to try, and when it is cold, it is pretty good. Do not know how it would taste at room temperature. I plan on trying to scrounge some up this week. Kroger has the best selection of the milk I have seen locally.

Parmalat location in the grocery stores seems to vary. Try looking in the area with the dry milks, coffee, baking supplies or beverages. I've found it in all of those places.

Don't get me wrong about the stuff, it is canned (just in paper and plastic, not metal) and it will have a boiled flavor but it's shelf-stable milk which needs no reconstituting. You're not limited to skim milk either. Stuff makes pretty good yogurt (I used the whole milk).
