Fresh Saver Vacuum Food Sealer.....CHEAP from Damark

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

I just received this information today from my daughter-in-law. She found the Fresh Saver in the Damark catalog for $29.........which is a STEAL since is sells regularly at Costco for $179. At www.damark.com the price appears to be $79, shich is still a good price. It may be worth checking out.

I have used my unit a lot and especially like the feature which allows me to vacuum seal mason jars.

I used DE (diatomacious earth) on my grains (wheat, oat, corn, soybeans), poured them into mylar bags in 5 & 6 gallon buckets, used a clothes iron to seal the bags most of the way (leaving a corner open.) Then I used my Fresh Saver to vacuum out the bag and ironed it shut with the iron. Did about 1000# worth - works very nicely also for buying bulk hamburger, partitioning it, and vacuum sealing for the freezer. I recommend the Fresh Saver (the bags, though pricey, are also reusable.) I think I got most of the mylar bags at usplastics.com - have plenty to spare (will use them for sugar & other staples in the next couple days.)

Its probably the one my mother in law sent back because it didn't work.

I had thought of getting one of these and then found out they need alternating current. Unless you can get, and use, one right away...you had better hope the grid stays up or get an inverter for your d.c. system.
