For a moment of peace & wisdom, here's Seamus Heaney's new poem.

A Dream of Solstice

Not his best work, clearly--seems forced. In the shadow of Yeat's 'Second Coming.' Still, the references to love and life-giving milk at the end bespeak an optimism that stirs in the hearts of many.

I almost wrote "...hearts of all..." but sadly find I cannot.

Somewhat disappointed, since Heaney is possibly our finest living poet. But thanks for the link.

I'll come back later in the day and re-read. 7:30am, shoved into my electronic slot, juiced, not the most propitious moment. Ambience matters.

For forum readers interested in hearing laureate Seamus Heaney recite the poem in full. Check out www.rte.ie The Irish national network taped and broadcast the true arrival of the 3rd Millennium this very morning. The ancient circular stone cave at Newgrange in Co. Meath (older than Stonehenge and the Pyramids kids!) had a glorious and bright solstice sunrise today. Spectacular. Humbling. Realplayer required to "watch" the broadcast. Coverage began at 8:30 a.m. GMT and ended at 9:15 or so. The actual light filling the chamber lasted about 17 minutes. Program closes with Heaney's remarks. File Ollam Mor! Long live Newgrange entering its 6th Millennieum and still working great. She's Y2K compliant lads! Slan to all.
