Petro Canada bunker

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

"The fear of a disruption in power and telephone service inspired Petro Canada in Calgary to set up a special Y2K centre away from its downtown headquarters. A dozen senior executives of the oil company will be hunkered down with their own generator and a satellite phone system "just in case."

Another example of "everything is OK"...at least 99.9% that is. The city of Boston is doing the same thing, as are many other cities and agencies. They don't care about the public safety at all, just as long as they can protect their corporate and/or Federal ass in a remote bunker somewhere.

Doesn't that just fill you with warmth and reassurance?

By and large -- other than supplying moral support (ha!) -- all these "senior executives" might as well go off and get looped with all their brethren and stay the hell out of the way of the people who know what they're doing.

Of course you have your bunker all fixed up eh?

Just to keep up with the Petro Can.'s of Calgary.

Just think, these are some of the oil co leaders in promoting "No big problem" we're just fine and expect no trouble whatsoever. If that is the case you don't even need a bunker, just stay in your corporate suites to monitor, right? "Don't do what we do, do what we say."

Yep, R.C., that was why I posted it. Methinks they'll be watching more than the operation of their own company with their satellite phones.

Brian, sigh. No bunker here. I wish. An employee of city waterworks told me this morning that there would be no problem and the whole thing is a hoax because all you need to do to fix the computers is just stop the computer clocks and leave them at December 31, 1999! He went on to say they have generators and tankers at each of their pumping stations throughout the city, and on December 31 they'll go off the grid and onto their own power. He said they tested that process a couple of weeks ago and "no one even knew about it!" He didn't mention embeddeds, and I didn't ask, given his already-presented solution to the problem.

BTW, did you see Bruce Beach in his bunker on the news last night?

Do you Doomers not understand the concept of "Contingency Planning"?

Sure, Pro. Just explain to me what a bunch of lard-a$$ed "executives" are going to contribute to getting anything fixed.

Do you trolls not understand the concept of "banned"?

It is to bad you didn't grill your water situation a bit more. I hear it is rather extencive over there. Our water just runs down from the hills a couple of miles away. But if that wasn't the case my curiosity would have gotten the best of me and if one member didn't know what was going on I would find someone who did.

Best of luck!
