Blue,

The LIE is ALWAYS a parking lot, rememeber the joke "The Long Island Expressway, Americas largest parking lot".

If Millstone goes only the east end will get it. Nassau, Queens, Kings, Brooklyn and the City should miss it.

I live about 60 miles upwind of Millstone. This nuke has been plagued by safety problems in "normal times". If it had a meltdown similiar to chernobyl (not likely because it is water cooled) it could leave a large uninhabitable toxic area. Long Island is downwind of Millstone and if there is an air inversion, NYC would also be affected. Let's hope and pray for all concerned that they have their act together. If they don't, see you in the next world.

Call the moving van company now and load up and move to a rural area now. Oh, I forgot, New Yorkers thinK the world ends at the Hudson.

BLUE, if the plant even *looks* like it's going to go, you take your KI. Optimally, your thyroid needs to be filled w/ neutral iodine a few hours or a day before any radioactive iodine hits it.

Also, have you read Ashton & Leska's "shelter in place" thread? Check the forum archives.

Blue- I'm on the North Fork of L.I.--15 miles from Millstone. The prevailing winds blow from southwest to northeast. This would blow the stuff away from the Island--unless there is a noreaster, which would blow it down on us. Your closer worries, since you are about 60 miles west of Millstone, are Brookhaven's nuke stuff and the fuel-rod pool at the now defunct Shorham plant, the latter being just 15 miles east of you.
