First, NYC cant burn, its all concrete.

Second, nothing is on any channel in metro NY area.

Might be a typical fire at Penn Station. Will report if I see more.

Hammy, you live in New York? Uh-oh. No wonder they don't have any propane. All I can say is, uh-oh. It's been nice knowing you Hammy. Good luck. :-)

Hawk,

No, Long Island, Nassau County. We get all our TV broadcasts from NYC, a few from Long Island and a few from New Jersey and Connecticut as well as cable from allover.

We see fires in the subways and Penn/GrandCentral all the time. I have witnessed fires on the #2 and #3 trains into Times Square many times. Track fires on the Long Island Railroad are a daily occurance. Penn Station fires are a couple times a year.

Drudge is like NewsMax and WND, they make ALOT more out of nothing.

Wow,

Hamster/hawk non-violent communication! This forum amazes me. If you two can get along, I have hopes for the USA post-1/3.

Hopefully,

Whew, no big deal. I've got to go to NYC tomorrow. First, the threat of a transit strike this week, now a fire at Penn Station! Maybe the Gods are trying to tell me something. Besides, it has rained 5 out of the last 6 days that I was there... <:)=

NEW YORK, Dec 19 (Reuters) - Pennsylvania Station in midtown Manhattan was evacuated on Sunday afternoon when a small fire in a shed on the tracks inside a tunnel spread smoke inside the terminal, officials said.

Fire officials said there were no injuries. The two-alarm blaze was brought under control after about two hours at 5:02 p.m.

``It's going to take a while to clear the air of smoke, causing delays of one to two hours,'' an official said.

At the height of the fire, all Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road service into Penn Station was suspended. New York City subway service from the station was also suspended.

Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road passengers were forced to leave their trains across the East River in Jamaica in the borough of Queens.

More than 32 fire units responded to the blaze.

LOL- it always amuses me when they say things like "-more than 32 fire trucks..." Does this mean at least 33, or after I ran out of fingers and toes and arms and legs and ears and eyes.....it was more than that? I like "approximately 312,111 people..." well then, let's get down to the nitty gritty, exactly how many people? I used to depend on numbers as a true perspective of description, but especially these days, they mean only what the expander means them to indicate. Can't rely on nuttin' anymore.

michael,

It's not easy to figure out those types of numbers in midtown Manhattan. I wonder if they included the people in the Penn Plaza Towers, above Penn Station? Naa, it was Sunday, nobody up there... And 32 fire trucks, that's nuthin' for NYC. No big deal... <:)=
