50 year old black and white negatives

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

I found about 40 old negatives in excellent condition that I'd like to develop without enlarging them. Which chemicals, paper and time/temp would be best. Any help appreciated. Thanks Phyl

I would start with good old silver paper and standard developer, stop and fix. Do a contact print the typical way to see what you've got; and then start thinking about some more-exciting alternative processes, like platinum, palladium, etc...Use Ilford MG Universal or Kodak Dektol for dev. And use Ilford RC MGIV since it's cheap. Times will beon the materials themselves. Temp should be 68degrees. Hope this helps. shawn

Kodak Azo is an excellent silver-rich paper for contact printing. It tones well also. Any standard paper developer will work well. It is fiber based so make sure to follow good washing procedures.
