Last gasp from Branson

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Help! Help! Luxury items are the first to go in any crisis.... and no one is coming to Branson. Here in our fairytale economy, there is a saying: "there is no such thing as bad news" Welllllllllllllllllll- everybody is cancelling out on the shows and a tidal wave of 'lack of business' is rolling through town now. Y2k?????? nawwww! THAT, is one of those survivalist things, isn't it? Hah! 6 months ago, all those limp wristed promoters were calling Y2k "thilly" NOW, all over the front page of the papers they are saying that people are afraid to travel because of Y2k. (they have also asked for their paychecks early.........) So, the good news is that if you got some cash, real estate is going to get real cheap here real quick.

Thank you very much for your detailed, methodical analysis. Your painstaking, logical conclusions are very sobering indeed.

Thank you also for posting under the handle of "skip". Definitely applicable.

I agree, King of Spain's posts are definately worth skipping.

I wonder if anyone has information of low turn out like this from other spots like Disney World, South Florida etc.?

I think it's because everyone heard Yakov Smirnov will be headlining the New Years Eve Bash.

Skip, I heard about Branson on the news. They said that bus loads of people particularly senior citizens were cancelling their trip to Branson, and that tickets to shows are up for grabs. I also heard that motel and hotels in Las Vegas have a high vacancy rate for New Years and lots of cancellations coming in everyday. Circus Circus in Reno, NV are advertising heavily and the room rates have dropped. I wouldn't care if they gave me the room for free, I'm staying home.

But I can't live without Glen Campbell.

Could anyone supply a link for this? I'd really appreciate it, as I have family going to Branson over the CDC. Thanks!

Ummm... Bob? If you're going to impersonate me, at least get the address right... it's bob@bob.bob, not bob.com. Try using your own handle, you cowardly wimp.

Branson, MO is professional entertainment a la Las Vegas without the gambling, alcoholism and prostitution (I've heard...and could be wrong). Lots of cute shops and restaurants, though.
