Headlines on channel 33, Fort Wayne, IN, 11:00 news:

Two pipe bombs exploded tonight in two different Federal Credit Unions located approximately one mile apart from each other. There was extensive damage to each building. No other details at this time. Then the story of the arrest of the suspected terrorist was the next report, then the story of the stolen explosives in Arizona. After these reports, one of the anchors said, "Scary stuff." The other anchor said, "Yes, this Y2K stuff is scary."

I have a feeling one of these anchors will be called into the office tomorrow. Nothing like this has ever happened in Fort Wayne before. I have lurked on this forum for three months but this is the first time I have started a thread. Just thought this might be one small signal of what we can expect in the next few weeks. Will keep watching.

This IS starting to look scary...almost like the gov't or someone is developing a self-fulfilling plot line for a B-rated Hollywood flick.

This is what I think for what it's worth. I live in Arizona, I have been diligently listening to the news about the explosives that were taken. Do I think Phoenix will be hit? Maybe. Think for a minute. What metropolitan area,within the southwest area of the country, will for sure have the biggest rip roarin' party going on? Las Vegas of course. Las Vegas is ALWAYS packed. Some terrorist places some explosives in a strategic place(s) and you are going to have mass casualties. Who knows how many with such an agenda have entered the country via the southern border. In the city where I live, there are parts of town you can drive thru and the illegals are all standing around on the street corners looking for work.Now, not all are illegals, but a large number of them are. Immigration has it's hands full just trying to handle the onslaught on the border much less caring about the ones who made it in. Thousands of illegals make it into this country every year. My point being...so can terrorists. In addition to the ability to infiltrate our borders, what would stop an organization from recruiting some of the local gang bangers? My statistics are old, but in the city I am from, in 1992, there were over 5,000 confirmed gang members in our city of almost 400,000. These people are very well armed and the ones that I have dealt with would kill you in a heart beat without any remorse whatsoever.In fact, for them, it would be an honor in their culture to do it. Does this sound like fertile recruiting grounds? Does to me. I don't believe in being paranoid, but I believe in looking at a dangerous situation,based on as accurate information that I can obtain, and then deal with it accordingly. I truly do believe we are heading into a tumultuous time not only with Y2k, but along with violent elements in our world who have a BIG bone to pick with our government or whoever.

Kinda resembles Y2K in a way...less than one tenth of ALL systems fixed...man, does Art imitate Life, or vise versa??

I'd doubt that this is evidence of terrorism (which I do believe *will* be happening, sad to say). Unless it was Bozo the Terrorist, I just can't see them picking a pair of credit unions in Indiana as likely targets.

Much more likely a disgruntled employee (or ex-employee), customer/ex- customer, spouse/ex-spouse/"domestic partner"/ex-"domestic partner".

Now, that comment by the newsmouth -- now *that* was interesting!

I've seen similar faultlines in the pasty smiles on some of the CNBC babbledrones. As of late, when the market is having a grim++ day, the panic -- among the *media* folks -- is palpable. Cracking, quivering voices, tense looks, frequent utterences of the "y2k" word, and in general, a "could this be *it*?" demeanor.

It's as if beneath the HappyFaces, they're resigned to something truly horrendous happening -- and happening *soon* -- and they're walking on eggshells.

It's like watching someone whistling past the graveyard, who hears a twig snap, then freezes in his tracks, and in an expression of utter terror, blurts out, "What was THAT?!?!?!?!?"

As to the *real* terrorisim I alluded to above, I *do* expect it to happen -- in fact, it's something *I* consider inevitable. The arrest of that Algerian creep with the explosives was IMHO a tip of the iceberg event.

They caught *one* coming into the country. Big deal. Yeah, it's good that *he's* out of commission, but what about his *cohorts*? His itinerary paints a pretty clear picture of him being a low-level courrier. WHERE ARE THE REST of them?

Even if they *do* catch the rest of his little ring -- which can't happen too soon as far as I'm concerned -- what about the *others* of his ilk?

As I see it, y2k is going to be an irresistable magnet that will draw these bastards in. Terrorists are cowardly vermin, and they will doubtless try to hit and run when they know that our defenses will be 1) at their lowest, 2) spread thin, and 3) preoccupied with various and sundry y2k-related confusion.

These next two weeks are not going to be my idea of fun. I'm glad we're living in a rural area, but I'm worrying my ass off about friends and relatives who are *not*.

I think that every fool with an axe to grind is going to try his luck between now and Jan. 1.

And to anyone who's tempted to chime in with any "terrorist incidents will be created by the government" stuff, all I have to say is GET REAL.

There are some REAL assholes out there, they hate our guts, they're armed to the teeth, and they've been chomping at the bit for *any* opportunity to strike.

If you're *that* "conspiracy-minded", consider this: the Algerian busted at the border was taken *alive*. He didn't meet a "Jack Ruby" either.

Hopefully someone who knows what he's doing is putting in some quality time interrogating the rat.

The Pollies often complain that any technology breakdown from any cause will be blamed on Y2K. Well it seems the same thing is happening with any societal breakdowns as well.

While real terrorism is a real threat (and the terrorists would have to be pretty stooopid to join in the T2L party), I also think "Terrorism" and "Anti-terrorism" are BIG BUSINESS (and of course BIG GOVERNMENT), and I think it quite likely that some events will be "orchestrated". And the little teaser by Joe Lockart about Clinton considering an E.O. about guns makes me wonder if something isn't planned for a Christmas Eve/Day "incident" that would justify that E.O.

If you want a Y2K target, forget downtown Vegas. Drive out to Hoover Dam and let your mind wander. You could either make a go for the transformer yard, go over the edge towards the powerhouse or try and pull a "Dam Buster" by going off into the water and timing your blast to use water pressure to fracture the dam. Hey, that worked for the Brits against the Germans you know. All it takes is a really dedicated driver for your truck.

But such suicide drivers are most associtated with Islamic groups. If I had to guess, I'd say that this was a theft by a domestic group. And militias aren't the only ones who would like their hands on high- powered fireworks for New Year's.

Recall that Arizona is the state where Earth First dynamited some high voltage transmission lines. As I remember, they were never caught for that one. Maybe they want to try again.

But I wonder if the FBI is going to release the hounds on the Firsties like they would, say the Michigan Militia? Doubt it, the MM isn't filled with folks who support the most radical environmental portions of Al Gore's agenda.

Hey Jimmy BD,

The Ft Wayne News Sentinel doesn't publish a paper on Sunday. I wouldn't expect it to publish its headlines before the paper was printed, which will probably be Monday morning, since it usually hits the newsstands by late afternoon. (At least it used to.)

I will email my brother in Ft. Wayne and find out what he knows.

I tried Ft. Wayne's website, and checked the link to WANE. I haven't been able to find any more information on the reported bombings. This is sure odd. But then I haven't heard back from my brother, either. If I hear something I will pass it on.
