How real do you think a nuclear meltdown type situation will happen in the lower Lk MI-Chicago, WI, MI area? Cook Nuclear facility in Bridgman, MI has 2 reactors and is supposedly shutting down til past the new year---how can they do that? Thought it took 2 yrs to cool off a reactor???? !!! HELP!

I was told it depends on the last time they refueled - recent refueling and they cannot!

The Cook plant shut down in 1995 due to gross safety violations.

It has been down ever since.

Unit number 1 is scheduled for start up in April 2000

Ever since the shutdown...Companies such as Virginia Power and Light have been selling electricity to SW Mich. This area is extremely susceptible to power grid failure due to that fact.
