Will server be up over rollover?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

SYSOPs, can you check with Phil Greenspun and let us know? (Or maybe I missed this?)

The Boston Globe had an article this morning stating that MIT officials were strongly encouraging every one of MITs 20,000 computers and servers to shut down over the rollover, starting 12/30 and coming back 1/2. This would apply to the ones that "could" shut down, whatever that means.

(Later in the article it quotes Gary Beach as saying, why would anyone be at their computer at the rollover if they possibly could be somewhere else? Well, if I have to go cold turkey, I might come up with Plan B.)

I have no plans to turn off any computers. I was unaware of any MIT- wide shutdown.

Philip
