MYSTERY MAN NABBED AT CANADIAN BORDER CARRYING BOMB-MAKING MATERIALS

A man carrying "garbage bags with 200 pounds of a white powder and four timing devices" was arrested by U.S. Customs officials at the Canadian border on Tuesday night, the SEATTLE TIMES is reporting in Friday runs.

"This could be a big-time story," a special agent in charge of U.S. Customs in Seattle tells the TIMES.

Writes TIMES scribe Susan Gilmore:

"Federal officials suspect the man, who has not been identified, was part of a larger organization, and accomplices may have successfully entered the U.S. before he was apprehended Tuesday night."

The French-speaking man was attempting to clear Customs at 6 pm on Tuesday when he was asked to step aside for questioning. At this point the man fled by foot. After a five-block chase, the man was apprehended and the materials were then found in his car.

The U.S. Border Patrol tells the paper that the man was carrying what they believe to be two fraudulent Canadian passports. He is believed to have lived for the last month in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The ATF, the FBI, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have been summoned to Washington state to help with the investigation.

A hearing is schdeuled for the mystery man on Tuesday in Seattle.

I don't know about you, but everytime I get mare than about 20 lbs. in my garbage bags, they tear. It's easy to haul around 200 lbs. though, ever tried it? They must have limited funds at these foreign terrorist groups.

Not that some are planning something - but does this even seem plausible?

Oh no! It's the dreaded Y2K Cocaine Bomb!

I, too, had some question as to what the "white powder" might be. It could have been artificial snow...and the timing devices would simply spread it...

Most likely, though, this was a potentially bad one...

Could be connected to a story on UPI tonight about canadian authorities investigating some Algerian terrorist ring. check it out if 'yer interested. If you read the world news, you know the algerian terrorists are some of the most blood-thirsty in the world

He was carrying 200 lbs of something? 200 LBS? That has to be a typo or a misunderstanding, or maybe the dude is some Ah-nuld type.

Andy,

first of all, ain't no one touching my couscous!

second, I'm glad I don't live in an urban area.

remember the horrific images from the African bombings

Reuters is saying the guy had more than just bags of white powder...

HAPPY RAMADAN!!!

ROFL!!!You guys are way too funny! One thing is for sure, he's not a rocket scientist. Let's see...I want to blend in. Lumpy garbage bags-thats it! No one will notice me that way. I wonder if they were chasing him before or after he dropped the bags. If he was still carrying them when apprehended, those were some slow cops!

Umm, he was carrying the stuff in his car. He had driven onto the ferry. He fled, leaving the goods in the trunk.

According to the 11:00PM news on KING 5 - Seattle, the timing device was a casio digital watch attached to a computer board containing various chips (unknown) and had terminals attached for a detonator. He boarded the ferry, but ran when he was asked to open the trunk of his car in Port Angeles, Wa. when the ferry landed. There was also some sort of liquid in a glass bottle (TV said "heavy liquid") that was in a box well packed with sawdust. Also said he had reservations thru New Years at a Seattle motel that is only a couple blocks from the Space Needle where there are 50,000 to 100,000 people expected for the Big Party on New Years Eve.

Makes one wonder how many are already in-country that they haven't caught?? I'm stayin home!

Casio watch timing device? Puhleeease! This guy was a plant. An obvious diversion. Watch what they want you to watch..or look where they don;t want you to look. Take yer pick.

I agree ,this guy is a plant, so that the news media will take it and run with all sorts of trumped up information ,so that the Govt will make the American public more worried about terrorism... Just like Columbine ,set up all the way, just to get legislation for more gun control....

White power could be Potassium Nitrate ( KNO3 ) , which provides lots of oxygen to any explosion , and the heavy liquid in the sawdust a bottle of Nitro Glycerine . Just speculation . MOST chemical compounds are white , by the way . Eagle

Couple of possibilities here. The person was sent in to draw attention so somebody else could get in. It's called a diversionary tactic. Another possibility is he was testing the security of border crossings and knew he could be caught. Just to make it all look good you throw in the "mystery" components.

The bad guys are not stupid folks. They have survived conditions and situations that many people would freak out on. It takes a brain to come up with a plan to hijack something, build a bomb. Where did the idea that terriorist equals stupid come from?

Dry runs are done in training to work out the bugs, why should anyone assume the bad guys don't do the same? Peel back the layers and see what's really going on and it isn't the NWO crowd.

just watching.....
