For you folks with some background in investments:

In today's mail I got a free copy of FINANCIAL SENTINEL, a newspaper/magazine. I have only scanned it, but it seems to have some good stuff and some not-so-good stuff. A very bearish Y2K article, as well as a listing of hot tech stocks for 2000.

Is anyone familiar with this publication? What is it's background, how is it slanted? What is it's track record? I can't tell who's publishing it or why I got a copy. I'm not a big investor (just bought DROOY, because of Y2K). I wonder how I got on their (goose?) list.

Thanks for any info. I guess I could just read it all, and make up my own mind, but then.........well, you know............if I only had a brain.

I have GSR and Fidelity gold. Metals very volitile bacause it is manipulated by the big boys to keep it down. Best of luck, we'll need some Y2K failures though. Go Y2K!

Infidel. I hope you were being facetious. Don't EVER dare to say "go Y2K" to me! We all talk glibly about missing our creature comforts, or the investment opportunities of Y2K. But, I have coached a Little League team of handicapped kids for several years. Many of these wonderful innocent little people are being raised by a single parent, and most are not affluent. For me, Y2K disasters all have faces of children.

Thats quite alright. Sometimes while spouting off I forget about the innocent victims of all this.

My fuse is lit tonight because of the unbelievable censorship efforts I see going on around here lately. We never seem to learn. It goes from one generation to another. Usually at the hands of the children of god. Simply amazing. They pray for compassion from god, but they never have any to give.

I don't know who these people are. I am an IBM mainframe programmer. I've been working on Y2K for three years. I've seen a lot of foolishness and a whole lot of corporate 'We have to protect our phony balony jobs'. Confidence is not high.

I personally don't think a lot will happen immediately. Perhaps by next summer or fall we could be in a fix as supplies begin to become scarce. Not the end of the world.

Anyway, no offense taken by your righteous indignation. I do it all the time.

I read your posts on the thread about LL's disruptions. As a very old timer here, I'll only say that the censorship issue has a long history on this forum. I think most members were strongly against it at first, but as the disruptions became so severe, we realized that it was a necessary survival tatic for the good of the forum. For eighteen months we encouraged all opinions and spawned some tremendous debate. Anyone was allowed their say, and flamers were often chastized by everyone. But when the trolls began their game-playing in earnest, the humor somehow left us all. Their spite became like a contageon that spread to literaly every other thread, and resulted in nothing but free-for-all name-calling contests.

I don't like the idea of censorship, and I don't think most here do, either. But when it becomes mindless spamming, I support the sysops. After all, I am only a guest here myself.

As to the lack of compassion shown by "God's children", well, the problem with our societies and religions too, for that matter, is that they are mde up of people. I am not a religious man, but I hope (and believe) that should Y2K have catastropic results, we will find that we are bound together by a common human spirit. I have said it before; the attributes we so admire, those of compassion, charity, hospitality, may indeed be valued by us because they are in fact the essential attributes of survival for the human race.

Anyway, I'm glad to know your backgorund as a programmer. I will look for your opinions, and wiegh them accordingly.

I would agree with you, but they don't seem to be selling anything. Like I said it is a magazine/paper format, and has several types of articles. I just wondered since it had such a strong bearish peice, if it was a front for goldbugs.

Well, I'll have to take your word for it. My first post here was censored. It was clearly intended as humor. Bad humor I'll admit, something about eating grass and loving it after Y2K. But, there was nothing that called for censorship.

I can only judge by what I've seen. If Ladylogic is that bad, ignore her, she will tire and go away to watch Oprah.

When I see these types of things, it reminds me of the religeous right. You know, the ones who know how you should live and think. The morally hignminded that scream bloody murder(wag the dog)when we intervene in genocide.

Y2K: I believe from my experiences as a contractor working for several different clients that a lot has been repaired, some can not be fixed. Too much interconnectivity. It's the chips deep down under ground that is the problem.

As you probably know, everything usually turns into corporate politics and it just doesn't get done. I could tell you some stories.

I think buying Drooy was a good move, especially at these prices. I remember a couple of months ago, people(professional trader types) chomping at the bit to buy at just under two. You should visit the gold site I mentioned for a real education.

Hey, tech stocks may be a good deal, after the crash. Those that survive will do well indeed in the long run...

Personally, I may want to put my money in Harley Davidson stock. Their key target market is loyal...and will probably survive.

I don't know what to say about your first posting. Bad humor is not only tolerated here, it is a tradition! Maybe you responded to one of the posters who have been kicked out. The sysops will sometimes delete such responces just to keep them from dangling, so to speak.

I can't get into the chat room, so I have been fortunately ignorant of the fight there. Actually, for the last three months, I have found very little entertainment value in the flame contests, and just avoided reading them at all.

It never fails to amaze me that people cannot just ignore blatently trollish posters. I guess it is just too much fun to take a shot. I think I may have been guilty of that once, too.

I have a pretty good background on precious metals, but I will visit the site you recommended. I like DROOY, but don't know why. I also think Pan Am Silver (PAAS) is a sleeper.

Please continue to post your experieces/opinions here, even if it's not the topic of the thread. I, like most folks here, am not a computer professional, and even at this late date, I am desperately searching for good information.

Actually, part of my preps are two 50cc scooters and a couple hundred gallons of gas. You think with a really tough leather jacket, I could pass as one of the big boys? Maybe a beard would help, too. Oh, and a tatoo! :-)

I just looked at the new threads you started, and I if I may, I might give you some advice.

You seem to have fallen into your own trap. Often we start out discussing Y2K and then disentrigrate into name calling. What you must realize is, that the forum is not about anyone in particular. Not you or me or the sysops, nor even Ed Yourdon. It's about Y2K.

I think that if you go back and read your stuff, you will agree that there is a difference in telling someone their concept is flawed, and telling someone you think they are a fascist.

All of your threads are about you and censorship, and the sysops being such sorry people. None are about Y2K. I liked our discussion, and I sincerely hoped we could continue.

So, maybe, get a cold one, chill out, and stop the threats. It ain't the way to play around here.
