FWIW - SF's Y2K Prep Brochure

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hmmm.... two weeks before the fat lady sings and I get this in the mail:

Y2K Don't be Scared - Be Prepared! (see http://www.ci.sf.ca.us/y2k/prepare/index.htm)

Better late than never, I guess. To sum up it's contents, it basically says that every household should be self sufficient for 7 days. It has a big green imposing Y2K in front of grey storm clouds, with a bunch of scared cartoon people looking up at it. Some interesting notes:

"Top off your gas tank towards the end of the year" "Stock a 7-day supply of non perishable foods, remember a non-electric can opener" "Have fresh water for 7 days. One person = 1 gallon/ 4 liters per day" "Remember, there is no substitute for a calm head, common sense, and preparation!"

LOL, yesterday I FINALLY heard an ad on the radio for a local distributer of 55 gal drum of water which is in my section of VA, and delivery to my neighborhood ONLY is free. Damn, I was looking online and phone book tryin to find a local provider, but finally had to order and pay shipping on a product that arrived ironically the day before I heard the ad.
