Government conflict of interest.

Dont know about the rest of the world but here in Sydney, Australia the State Gov. seems to have a conflict of interest concerning new years eve.

While they have issued a warning to all .gov employees to stay out of buildings in the CBD on rollover they have spent millions on new years eve festivities. They have to turn a profit on this investment.

Sydney expects 1.5 mill people in the harbour new years eve to watch fire works and spend their money. There is no way they can discourage people by saying they are better off at home, or at least not packed into the harbour like rats.

If the power or transportation goes bad how do 1.5 mill people get home?

How long do the ligths have to stay off before the crowds decide they might not come back on and that its a good time to panic/loot?

There are millions of .gov dollars at stake and no public official is going to risk that money by telling to people that it might not be safe to party the night away.

Do they have cars?

Cars have been restricted in the CBD to reduce traffic. Nobody will be able to park within 6 or 7 city blocks.

The .gov wants everyone to use public transport ie train/bus. Even taxis are being kicked out.

Good luck that night to all concerned.

The wording of the subject line:

Government conflict of interest

seems inherently redundant, not to say that conflict of interest is the only conflict inherent in government. :-)
