ot. I heard a news blurb about Australia's worse storm

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I can't find any reference to it. The news I heard about it said it was the worst storm in their history. Also Europe was hit with massive winds last week causing trucks to be blown off the road. I have looked all over the net for a site about this. Anyone have any information about theses storms?

Wait a minute! Isn't this off-topic, unless of course it's a three- day storm!

Australia's worst storm in terms of strength mayby. It is Tropical Cyclone "john" category 4 . There was some good footage of it on TV here (Australia) last night. It did come in in a pretty un-populated area however.

I heard it got to category 5. It hit a very unpopulated area, all the people in the worst effcted town just hid in a shipping container for a coupla days.

I live in the southern part of Western Australia, it hit our northern coast (about 1500 km's from where I am) and was a Category 5 cyclone. At this point in time it is over land and is still going but reducing in strength, it currently is around category 1.

The Cyclone (named John) hit the small township of Whim Creek, other towns did experience the winds from the Cyclone but they were not severely affected. There is another Cyclone heading to our coast as well named Ilsa, it is currently Category 1.

If you wish more information then try this site out Western Australian Bureau of Meteorology Warnings

Two weeks ago Denmark was hit by the worst storm since weather records began. Widespread destruction, electricity blackouts, floods. Some people still without electricity. Since then, further chaos due to extreme weather: heavy rain, early snow. But we are told that Y2K will be a total non-event, no preparation necessary.

... continued.

Worst economic damage was that the world's largest crane (at one of Europe's largest shipbuilders) fell over and will take months to replace: 2000 workers sent home indefinitely, and 9 ships delayed.

Also large economic damage to Danish forests: Link
