William Wilson's consciencegreenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread |
I am doing a paper analyzing E.A.P.'s William wilson. I am getting along fairly well, but i cannot figure out for the life of me why his conscience(his double) only speaks in a whisper. Also, why does he at the end speak in a regular tone. Please help.

Think about it, if you had a conscience sitting on your shoulder, would it talk or whisper in your ear? When most people think about thier conscience, they think about the small little voice in the back of thier mind. At the end, the conscience spoke in full voice almost as a last effort to get Will W. to listen to him.
