About those bunkers.....

Although I have not heard exact descriptions of the Y2K bunkers which have been built by the .gov's, I assume from the use of the word "bunker" that these are literally underground fortifications. If so, why do these need to be underground ?

1. To protect tptb from incoming nuclear missles.

2. Easier to keep you out.

3. That where the FEMA manual told them to put it.

...on the other hand...

2. Easier to keep them in.

(Just looking for a silver lining...)

Indeed the word "bunker" usually means underground, but all of them are not. The one just announced in Hamburg, Germany is in a subway station (Underground) the one in NYC is on the 26th floor of the Trade Center building (above ground) the one in Washington, D.C. is in an old federal building just down from the White House, above ground. Now, the one in Los Angeles is a number of floors underground in the City Court House. There's one in Maine's state capitol, and I believe it is above ground also.

Above ground or underground, they are all spooky.

And, if everything is so honky-donky, and just fine, then what's the need for multi-million dollar bunkers, shelters, control centers or whatever one wishes to call them?

Can't burn down a bunker, keeps a bunker at a constant temperature, can't be bugged or monitored from the outside, and it worked well for Saddam Hussein.

Re: NYC "bunker", on the 21st (?)floor. My bet Rudy does anything to prevent the transit strike....still have to get the bunker stocked with last-minute food and get the city ready for y2k. Forget the "interrupt the Christmas shopping and Radio City shows" stuff; this could become a "life or death" question in these advent weeks to y2k.

Hey ChowBabe! Glad you're back. Was afraid that jerkoff ran you off. Missed your "input"!

they are underground because they were built in the 1960's and were built to be used in the event of nuclear war.

THIS generation is simply recycling the cheapest already built secure locations.

Follow the families....

The pols claim these are only strategic centers for monitoring y2k, or some other silly bull.

If this is true, and their only intention is to monitor y2k and supervise corrective action from these "centers". Then there would be no reason for them to bring their entire families to the "center". If, however we see or hear of the wife and kids going to the "center", I'd say we're in for a helluva' 3 day storm.
