Federal Reserve Board to switch to generators

>From this week's Barrons:

The Federal Reserve Board is switching to emergency generators on December 29, just in case the Y2K problem disrupts area electrical utilities. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae have ordered senior management to stay in town in case there are Y2K-related emergencies.

John,

Could you provide a link for that?

Thanks.

You can't link to it. It's a subscription based site. The article is in the printed version also.

John,

Where is the article in the print version? I didn't notice it, but then I don't read every word.

It's on page 32 of the Dec. 13th Barron's, buried in the bottom right hand corner. The above quote is the whole article.

John,

Thanks, I missed it. You have much more of an eagle's eye than I.

Since there is no attribution for the statement, it's tough to figure it out. Do you think it's significant that they are apparently not waiting for an outage before going to gen power?

I just think it is ironic. If any individual said they were turning their generators on on the 29th they would be labelled a nut but the Fed does it and nobody bats an eye. This is after Alan Greenspan has said that the risk of systemic failure is "negligible".

John, if you have and DGI friends or relatives who you are still trying to persuade, this is the line to take. "Watch what the Feds are doing, not what they are saying."
