"It's A Wonderful Life" - MIA?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Just an observation. Eleven days to Christmas eve. Checked the weekly TV schedule yesterday and "It's A Wonderful Life" is not showing at all this week in my area. So far only saw it ONCE on Thanksgiving. Seems like last year you could almost watch it 24/7. Plenty of Scrooge versions on TV. Just wondering if it is too close to rollover for the TV mogels to be comfortable showing bank runs to the masses... even if the movie DOES have a happy ending. ???

Any "It's A Wonderful Life" sightings in YOUR area?

LOLOLOL.....

You are right!!

Last decade I have gotten so SICK of that movie, counting it on four cable channels at ONE time last year....!

This year, haven't had to surf past it once.

Very astute observation....No Sh*t!!! Ain't it the truth tho?

Last night on NBC they said that it would ONLY be shown on NBC this year and once. Sometime soon. I thought that was strange.

I think this would have more to do with the weird and wonderful series of mergers in the entertainment business in the last couple of years. Just who ultimatly owns the copyright to exactly what, and what they can do with it, is a pretty confused matter right now.

Quite a bit of marketing right now has to do with colorization and release of old movies on DVD and other high definition formats, and usually they aren't going to show it if a new release is in the works.

When they do show it on NBC, I wonder if they are going to edit the bank run out of it altogether. Maybe redit it to make it look like George was robbed because he had all that cash.

Makes one wonder...since everything is A.O.K Okee Dokee all been fixed....so leave your money in the bank! And don't forget to keep records...even though the FDIC doesn't recognize your records as proof of anything. Calling Clarence.......

Someone bought the rights to that movie. :( Oh well, "A Christmas Story" is much much better. Skud Farkas had green teeth I tell ya, he had green teeth...or was that Grover Dill?

Leave your money in the bank where it's safe? Remember what Willie Horton said when asked why he robbed banks?

"Because that's where the money is."

Anybody would be foolish not to have at lease the a month's worth of cash at home. The banks may be open. They may not. Your place of employment may be able to process paychecks. They may not. If your cash isn't safe in your home then what is?.

Actually, it was shown constantly (it seemed) up until last year. Then some copyright problems surfaced and it was shown only a few times last year--as it is this year.

I don't believe there is any concerted effort not to show it relative to y2k since this started last year imho.

A Web site featuring the woman who played Zuzu in the movie indicates it'll be on NBC on Sunday night (12/19) and again on Christmas Eve.

Ira -

That oft-quoted bank robber was named Willie Sutton. Willie Horton was the convict who became a centerpiece of the 1988 presidential campaign when the Republicans used ads about him to tag Mr. Dukakis as "soft on crime".

Ah, It's a Wonderful Life. Jimmy Stewart: just back from the war as a decorated hero and at the height of his considerable abilities as an actor. Donna Reed: smart, sensitive, 6 years before winning an Oscar and light-years before becoming "Everymom" on TV. Lionel Barrymore: senior member of American theatre's "Royal Family", already showing signs of arthritis, but still able to take over a scene. And of course Frank Capra: the filmmaker who believed in the American Dream as few others have before or since.

If I am not mistaken, the rights to the music from "It's a Wonderful Life" were purchases by NBC. This pretty much prevented it from being aired on any cable channel. I believe this actally started last year, so only this network can show it now.

Hope you got it on tape. And please don't ever watch the colorized version, if they have one.

ROTFL - Thanks Carl. Sheri

From: Y2K, ` la Carte by Dancr (pic), near Monterey, California

I don't believe there is any concerted effort not to show it relative to y2k since this started last year imho.

As IF "they" weren't already working on spin by that time.

The movie was advertised, here, as an exclusive.

IT'S ON AGAIN TONIGHT!! 8:00 PACIFIC, 7:00 CENTRAL

The classic story of the human condition. If we do not work together and help each other out we might just as well be dead.

MERRY CHRISTMAS BEDFORD FALLS!!!

(I love Jimmy Stewart. If you like him, another movie I recommend is "The Flight of the Phoenix") Enjoy.

Sorry, I figured it would be on at 5:00 Eastern, but since they didn't say that on the TV I had no way to confirm it. Thanks ZIX4Y7. Enjoy!
