Police and firefighters across Houston are busy preparing for what could be the most chaotic night of the century. And while most say they've conquered the Y2K bug there are still problems that could decide whether your New Year's call for help gets a prompt answer. This year's celebration is expected to especially chaotic, not just because it's the end of the century but also because it falls on a Friday night. Houston police say so far all Y2K tests on their systems have gone well and no major problems are expected. The expectations are not quite as rosy in the Houston Fire Department. After what fire dispatchers call a rough six hours of Y2K testing, the city insists it's ready for emergency runs during the year 2000 transition. On a more broad scale the Department of Public Safety says it's ready for Y2K.

Thanks for the update from KTRH. The first I heard of this story was 4 to 5 am on KHOU-11 early report. I figured some how it would probably get buried by Monday night. Set to spin cycle.

I am SO glad I moved outta Houston back in April. :-)

12 years of dealing with traffic, noise, congestion, crime, etc was MORE than enough for this country boy!
