No one ought to be surprised with mayor Lee Brown (I'll deal with organized crime to insure my homies their piece of the pie) at the helm.

Free translation service: software engineese to English.

Software engineese: "It's 100% done."

...to...

English: "I'm pretty sure Bob did one of those design things, and we've written loads of code, using those really neat namespace things that Jim is so keen on. It compiles real well now, and we can't find any problem in our alpha test simulations. What could possibly go wrong?"

Sigh.

It's been all over the news this weekend in Houston that the Fire Department failed its Y2K testing. They would have been unable to dispatch trucks to the needed locations. They are (finally) working on real contingency plans which seem to be going well.

Also, Channel 13 (KTRK) picked up the report from CNN about water problems, and recommended that everyone have one gallon of water per day, per person for at least 10 days. No one seems to be listening!

At least they didn't claim to be doing y2k paperwork, like the people in Atlanta did.
