Y2K in Germany - My last visit before rollover

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hi all, I decided to take a couple day4s off and visit the folks with my wife for a last time before rollover. So, we traveled over here and I kept my eyes and ears open for y2k news.

General population thinks of it as a joke. No facts whatsoever. About 50% more clueless then the general american populace regarding y2k. Which is pretty dorn clueless.

HUGE Article in a semi-respectable magazine caught my attention. STERN. Year 2000 problem. We have BIG problems ahead. Go to www.stern.de/magazin/

TV Show showed that VW/Audi are having HUGE computerproblems for the delivery of spare parts to their dealerships. Since they rolled out a new computersystem in September they can4t fulfill delivery4s. Dealers are using NEW and Rental cars for spare parts. Have a friend here which drives a Audi. His Ignition switch was faulty. It took them six weeks to fix it. (I am not exagerating). Don4t have time to look for links for that right now.

Anyway, from what I see here things don4t look very well. We will see in 3 weeks I guess...

Well I am flying back this coming week having hugged my mom and dad for a last time til rollover. I pray they will can keep their promise and visit me stateside in March.

Well, Hello fellow travelers,

I am leaving on the 20th for Germany to stay till the 28th.

Found some cheap last minute fares at priceline.com.

Wife and I decided to make a last minute visit before the rollover. Just made the decision on saturday :-)

As you can see we made sure to be back in time.

We bought a DW-TV KU band dish this fall and found that nobody is even mentioned Y2k as a potential problem yet.

All out friends live from one day to the next and we want to try to convince parts of the family to have at least a smal amount of food in the house.

This will not be easy as they at large think americans are wacco and no one can understand why I even moved here.

Well, will let ya all know how I make out.

My mother is leaving for Germany on the 16th and won't be back til January 7th. There wasn't any chance that I could talk her into making the trip at any other time. So when I said goodbye to her this morning after church, I kept thinking this may be the last I'll see of her for a long time. It was weird. She just doesn't get it.

My FIL lives in NYC and after much pleading by me, he decided to spend the holidays with us in Ark. I was elated until I found out that he will be returning on the 30th! He wanted to be back home before the 1st to avoid any problems. I can't convince him that is the problem! He is 82. I have to abide by his wishes even though he knows how I feel.
