greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Y2K on "This is America", with Dennis Wholey on channel 32 (a PBS station) in DC at 7:30 pm. Check the listing in your area. Go to www.tvguide.com and search for "This is America" or "Wholey". It may be on in your area too.

Sally Strackbein - author of Y2K Kitchen

Tony Keyes - former host of "Y2K Advisor" radio show

Don Wynegar - Director of Y2K outreach, US Dept of Commerce

Mortimer Downey - Deputy Secretary of Dept of Transportation, Chief Operating Officer

Solveig Singleton - Director of Information Studies, Cato Institute and contributer to y2kculture.com

Denise L. Wright - Director of Research, Mind Matters Consulting

We all sat at a table and talked about Y2K for an hour. We actually got some preparedness info in (not enough, though). I hope some DGIs tune in. The host was very well informed.

Thanks for the "heads-up" Sally. Keep up the good work.

Sally - You're terrific. I'll be watching. See you soon!

The PBS is very much in bed with their good friends the Pres and her hsuband. Do not be suprised if it sinks to a government spin piece or the "confusing doesn't really say anything" in the end.

As to Sally, let me add my keep up the good work.

You were great Sally. My favorite part was when Dennis cut in on Don Wynegar and said "Hey, wait a minute, all that I have heard from the government is that everything is just fine." And then Don and Mortimer Downey both started saying that they and the government have been telling us right along that we should prepare. The finger pointing has already begun....has it not.

Two questions:

1. This group was very easy on the gubmint guys, but they both still had that headlamp in the eyes look....at lest to me. Did you sense any fear in either of these guys ?

2. Is Solveig married ?

God Bless you for all of your hard work !!

I think Solveig said she was attached. She's very photogenic, isn't she - and very nice.

Denise is very GI and working very hard in DC to get the word out in the city. I love the title of her pamphlet, "Don't Get Caught with a pack of Cigarettes and a 40 ounce."

They didn't cut much of the conversation, but they did cut the part where I said "BOGUS" to Don Wynegar when he was telling us how the government is telling us to prepare.

The format didn't allow too much rambunctiousness. I tried to keep my comments middle of the road, because I did not want to totally turn off any DGIs. I wanted to get DGIs to make a decision that they can and should start preparing.

I think the show has a regular audience. My mother's nextdoor neighbor called her to say I was on, and she had not told him about it.
