Overheard at Bank of America last night....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I was in B of A last night at closing time (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho). I was the last customer in the bank. My adult daughter was with me and overheard a conversation between two tellers. They were frustrated and upset because a woman had tried to withdraw $50,000. from her account there. They were discussing how to stall her and what to say or do. Then a manager joined in their conversation and told them, "I told you..from now on, make everyone who wants to withdraw cash fill out the Y2K form"... Hmmmm...Anybody else heard about this "form"? I was there making a deposit, and have had no trouble with withdrawals personally to date (of course, the amount I would withdraw is not likely to raise eyebrows anyway :)...)

BofA is our bank. Last week my husband asked about withdrawing cash and they told him he could have whatever he wanted-no questions asked other than the over $10K law. We are in Oregon.

Mumzie,

What the hell were you doing making a deposit honey? Haven't we gotten our message through to you yet? You need to hang on to your cash sweetie, or else you are gonna be very mad when those bank doors close and they won't let you in!

Now, I've heard about this "Y2K form" from some of my banking insider connections. If you withdraw over $10,000, you must fill out this form, and then your name immediately goes into the FBI database with a big red flag on it. If the banks end up having to close for lack of cash, they will come around to your house and force you to turn over the money so that it can be dispersed among other customers, in maximum portions of $100 per customer. If you refuse to turn over the money, you will be charged with intentionally destroying the banking system, and immediately executed by firing squad. You will of course be permitted to have a blindfold and cigarette if you wish.

Pardon me while I flick the bird sh*t off my shoulder.

We pay bills. We transfer funds from a business account to a personal account. Mystery solved. Take a birdie Valium or stick to lower altitudes so you don't get so dizzy. I know about the $10,000. red flag. I have never heard of it being referred to as a Y2K form.

Mumsie,

I think Hawk was affectionately ribbing you. Don't be too harsh with him...he really is a nice boy.

The B of A is also my bank. I have been taking out my money also and have had no problems whatsoever. Of course am only taking out small amounts at each time I go to NOT raise eyebrows and then go to different branches where thay will NOT recognize me. So far I have NOT had any problems in any which way. But it seems that when I go and ask for small bills, they seem to usually have to go into the back. We will see what will happen shortly.

If the feds come to my house I'll just toss them a sh*t load of receipts and tell them to audit me first then come back for a visit.

If you make it a habit to get most of your paycheck back in cash every week, the tellers, after a while, don't seem to care about it. My wife and I do this, and even when we get back $1000+ cash, there's no biggie.

If someone comes to the house, either say nothing, or if you feel you must, tell them that you have a gambling habit, and that you aren't very good at it, but that you can't stop. This is of course why you don't have any more of the money, you know? :)

Why didn't you ask them about it? There's no law against that - yet.

When I cashed my paycheck at the B of A (bank of issuance, not my bank) I was a little surprised they not only had me swipe driver's license through machine (normal) but also had me put thumbprints on check. Is THIS normal?

BTW... the local BofA along with other banks and businesses usually buys a Christmas tree for the lobby.. from the local boy scouts. But not THIS year. This year BofA said word from higher ups is no Christmas displays as people get upset. ?? Is that what you are seeing at your branches?

Bah, humbug!
