I have an idea for oil lamps

I have the metal Aladdin and lot of regular oil lamps. I want a lamp shade for all of them, but the cost is too high. I wonder if using the Wilton cake decorating parchment bags, cut across the small end to fit the glass chimmney would work as a shade? I have used parchment paper to bake on and it does not burn. I think this will block the glare of the flame enough to be comfortable. I will try this this weekend and post the results.

Carol my dear I'm afraid you will have a fire with lampshades made out of parchment paper. The lamp will get Too HOT.

I know parchment shades are for sale for the lamps, but have not examined one up close. How are they different? Parchment is available on a roll in the baking section. My dh said the tripods are easy to make, so I just need the right paper for it. I think I will try one, and the lamp will be outside in a clear area for testing purposes.

Good question. Aladdin itself makes and markets a paper lampshade some with built in rings/brackets, others to rest on their standard lampshade bracket. Don;t hteink there's any magic in how it's doen to avoid fire: just rigid and distant enough from the chimney. Actually I was thinking about buying one .....
