Tourney 2 - To answer Stig's Question...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

If I answered his question where he put it, the discussion would be out of order, so I started a new thread.

To answer your question - I'm going to go with if you don't play all of the games, no, you can't vote for the next tournament.

If you played all of the games, but then withdraw from the competition, you can still vote for the next tournament.

If you played all the games, judge, and withdraw from judging, you are disqualified from the current tournament AND tourney 3 - both voting AND playing!(that rule hasn't changed... I'm trying to be clear.)

So that means i have to do one of two things :

1. Make 10 recordings no matter how good/bad they are. 2. Vote for t3 under a different nick

You should specify if players that didnt participate at all in t2, the way you say it,it can be understood as that new players are not allowed to vote.

Well everyone... what do you think of Stig's motion? New players shouldn't be allowed to vote? YOU decide!

Not allowing new players to vote would be stupid,i vote for allowing them.

I really wanna vote for the next tourney. I boycotted the last one because all the games sucked (and I couldn't run Super Sprint), and not being able to vote prevents me from having cool games in the tourney. And I still feel like the tourney owes me for the controversial decision to throw out BadLands. It won't be allowed in the tournament for a year thanks to you, Stig (similar style games to Super Sprint aren't allowed for several tourneys), but I still feel gypped. Yeah, it was July, but I'm still bitter. =) But anyway, I wanna be able to vote. It's the only way I can get Metro-Cross in. LOL

--Sports Dude (BTW, you are SO dead, Alex. =) I went two levels farther and you still beat my score, it's annoying me. Oh, and BTW, no I don't remember chess pieces in Metro-Cross, sounds cool though. You should know I've never played the game until beta 10, I may've played a console version somewhere but I had no idea what I was doing in it at the time. =)

Because of me ? Thats bullshit, the games for t2 was selected by random, i didnt like it either so dont accuse me for being responsible for wich games are in the tourney.

I don't understand why some players who didn't play the 10 games aren't allowed to vote for the next tournament. And same case for those who decided to withdraw. It means that new players have more "rights" than them and that's not fair nor logical. So, I propose a formula which allows everyone to vote, but with weights according to their investments in MARP. The multiplier would be : 1 + INT ( n / 5 ) + INT ( 2 / ( r^(log 2 ) ) ) where : n is the number of games played in the last tournament ( 0 for new players, 0 for those who withdraw ). This gives 2 more points to those who played all the 10 games. r is the ranking of the player in the last tournament ( + infinity for new players or those who withdraw ), log is for decimal logarithm. This gives a small award to the best of our players. The maximum possible for this multiplier is 5.

Just remember that all games will only have 1 vote,so giving the best players advantage is questinable :)
