Pole Position II - Should there be 4 categories?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

At Twin Galaxies, high scores for polepos2 are kept for each track. Pat, if you want to allow it, would it be possible to divide polepos2 and poleps2a into sections for each track, Fuji, Test, Seaside, and Suzuka? I know we don't need anymore competition...but it's a suggestion. --Sports Dude (BTW, I absolutely SUCK at Pole Position and the sequel. I suck at classic games...LOL)

I agree, was just going to write about it. It would be FUN!!! to compete all tracks and not just that (boring?) "test"-track.

what's poleps2a? A clone?

Are these scores TG-records for poles? If are, well here's something to aim at:

POLE POSITION I (Atari) 60,850 Mike Munoz, Arnold's on the Ave., Seattle, WA 6/30/84 58,590 Daniel Rodriguez, Stop & Play, Port Richey, FL 4/3/99

POLE POSITION II (Test Track) 65,870 Federico Comolli, Milano, Italy 2/20/85 (Fuji Track) 63,200 Maurizio Miccoli, Milano, Italy 4/6/85 (Suzuka Track) 60,150 Maurizio Miccoli, Milano, Italy 6/13/85 (Seaside Track) 60,060 Maurizio Miccoli, Milano, Italy 5/17/85

I'll agree with SportsDude's motion. That's all I need to say here :)

Done! I added 6 entries as follows. (Note: Use the current Pole Position II ROMS for Test Track)

pp2fuji "Pole Position II (set 1) [Fuji]"

pp2seas "Pole Position II (set 1) [Seaside]"

pp2suzu "Pole Position II (set 1) [Suzuka]"

pp2afuji "Pole Position II (set 2) [Fuji]"

pp2aseas "Pole Position II (set 2) [Seaside]"

pp2asuzu "Pole Position II (set 2) [Suzuka]"

Zwaxy, please link the images of these clones to the originals.

Thanks...but it's confusing because you make them sound like 6 different games. Or is there a problem with the new scripting that won't allow new games to use the 'gamename-variant' format?

These are the actual records for Pole Position 1 and 2. I also included a neat little story of the 2 world champions that went at it for the world record for hours... well, I'll just let everyone read it. The story was derived from page 885 and is a very intersting one of many found within the 200 pages of hilarious true stories found at the end of the book.

Regards, Steve Krogman

"Mike Klug, Pole Position champ, was at Twin Galaxies to break the world record shared by himself and Les Lagier. The high score of 67,260 had been achieved over one year before and Klug was hoping to make a breakthrough while at Twin Galaxies. Klug was a true warrior. He sat in the cockpit and played and played. After hundreds of games, he became so tired, that he rested his arms by driving the qualifying laps with his feet. Later, in 1986, Les would finally pass one more car to raise the wold record to 67,310. Les and Mike believe that even one further car can be passed before attaining a maximum score which can never be beaten."

From Walter Day

Can someone on MARP be that person?

Pole Postion: 67,310 (Diff: "B" = 195 mph, "H" = 244 mph; Start: 4 Laps)

Pole Position 2: (Option #1: 3 racing laps; Option #2: 100 seconds per lap; Option #3: diff #4: qualifying lap is diff #4

Test Track: 81,870 "Jeff Peters" Fuji Track: 78,020 "Mike Klug" Seaside Track: 75,390 "Jeff Peters Suzuka Track: 75,660 "Jeff Peters
