Soap Operas : LUSENET : I Wasn't Built to Get Up at this Time : One Thread

Are you a soap opera watcher, or, like me, can't you stand them? Which are your favourites, and if you could kill off any character, which one would it be?

Okay.. even though I have my hands on Tim's Katie... I thought I'd post in his message board.

I learned along time ago how ridiculous soaps are... at least in the U.S. the soaps are truly abnormal.. no one could live the way these people live... it's so fake and unbelievable, I dont know how people get so involved in them. Okay, okay... I'll confess I did watch one for a year or so called Guiding Light... when Reba was married to Billy then she married Josh.. but then she drowned and came back to life... and was a nun, but then found her way back to Josh and... er, I dont really no what is going on..

Anyhow.. the British soaps I just dont get.. I know there have to be some really great looking people in Britain, they just choose not to put them on television, and why does that old lady have purple hair... sorry, Tim, I just dont get British sense of humour.... which is why Tim surprises me, because he's funny.... how could that be.. well maybe because he's half American. :)

Purple rinses are a classic bit of oap culture ;)

I used to mad keen on 'stenders and Brookie - but i can't be arsed with them now.

However (and the last remaining shred of credibility i once had now goes down the drain) i do watch the Sunset Beach omnibus. O! The shame!

Aw, mimph, yau don't get my sense of humour?

Wait a minute, no one does. No one's supposed to, though. That's half the fun.

Anytay, when I was about 14 and had just acquired Un TV In My Room and there weren't enough films on to keep me satisfied, I took to watching Neighbours and Home And Away. I actually got v. v. v. involved with both of them, but before long the plots got utterly repetitive or loony. They started thinking "Lou accidentally falls into the swimming pool" counted as a Good Plot Twist. So I stopped. After, um, 9 months and I don't miss them at all.

I must admit, I like watching some soap operas. They're nice to laugh at. And it makes you feel better about your own life, since no matter what, it's always going to be better than theirs. :) I must admit, I do watch Eastenders. And I used to watch The Young and the Restless and Passions, but I don't anymore. The plots do get rather twisted and out of hand. I like Eastenders because at least it's realistic (dead people don't come back to life, and there are no evil twins). And there are some good-looking people on there! And yes, I realize this is all just one big paragraph, and I don't like it, but I'm sick. So it's allowed.
