In 23 days - one way or the other - I'm getting on with my life!!!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

THAT is why I can't wait for the rollover. Enough preps, enough debate, enough conjecture. Just give me good ol' fashion, boring predictable life, even Y2K style. I'm sure almost everyone feels the same way....

I've been pretty much eating anything I want here lately, storing up for hard times. No matter what happens in January, I plan to lose some weight. Any maybe I'll finally start using the good china.

I agree. A certain boring sameness is preferable to the endless grind of uncertainty. Thanks for posting a thoughtful observation.

Good Post.....I have said this several times now. I am ready for Y2K...whatever it is, or is not. Mostly I want it to be over so I can move forward. I feel like my life has been "pause" for over a year and a half now.

I constantly say:

"if all goes well after new years....im going to (fill in the blank)"

it sucks....and I cant wait for it to come and go...no matter what happens or does not happen.

-- C. Hill (pinionsmachine@hotmail.com), December 08, 1999.

Yeah, life has been on pause too, since last fall, and now 2001 is ahead with a year of crises as its boot. I suspect another year of life on a pause is ahead.

-- Paula (chowbabe@pacbell.net), December 08, 1999.

I can't wait either. The sooner the better. I think we all want this over.

We must still keep in mind that this isn't just a Jan 1st event. However, if I don't see any serious infrastructure impacts the first few days of January, I will feel a little better.

-- Larry (cobol.programmer@usa.net), December 08, 1999.

Yeah, the "event" isn't the part that is on my nerves..its the WAITING to see what happens..then moving forward in whatever direction lies ahead....i just want to get on with it already.

-- C. Hill (pinionsmachine@hotmail.com), December 08, 1999.

I understand the feeling. But you realize that you are wishing our life away. Live this moment. It is the only one you have. Remember to: Remain centered, Stay Clear, Be flexible Al

Timemachine,

Right on, you nailed it! They are many more "preps" I would like to do but I can't focus much anymore. It is so weird to go to Christmas functions and simultaneously prepare for something so problematic as y2k. This is especially true when I know of no one, face to face, that is preparing (at least they don't say anything). Yikes already!

I have to agree with the "waiting sucks" sentiment. It reminds me of discussions with a friend who lives in California, when we debate what is worse, earthquakes or hurricanes. My point to him, is that the waiting and watching part of seeing that hurricane heading towards Florida (and hearing it is *supposed* to turn north) amounts to psychological torture.... with an earthquake, it happens with no warning.

That's what I want. Just bring it on, the wait is killing me.

Got peace?

Yeah ... enough of this! I've either prepared well enough or I haven't ... got a gen, plenty of water and a fair amount of food. Can stand to lose some weight ... just sick of this whole thing.

-- CodeBubba (codebubba@yahoo.com), December 08, 1999.

We have prepped. We have researched. We have discussed. We have advised others. We have paused.

I see no pausing for me come January. Whatever is happening will be met head on and I will draw on my reserves as necessary. No matter what happens things will never again be the same for me.....I've had a change in my perception of the world in which I live.

The waiting is driving me crazy! I planned to do more prepping up to the last moment but haven't done any in a few weeks because I'm so burned out.

I also have had a completely unexpected situation arise that is making it a thousand times worse for me. A month ago, I fell into a intimate relationship with someone who's been a friend for almost two years. Neither one of us knew. And I think I've fallen in love. Both of our living arrangements preclude this from being an "open" relationship (no, neither one of us is married). Now, I'm planning on moving if Y2K is a BITR but right now, I have a paid-for house stocked with preps (which, of course, means I'm flat broke!). And I get furious thinking that Y2K could ruin this for me! I have an overwhelming desire to break things, screaming "It's not fair!!!!".

Pearlie - use the good china. You really deserve it! (Get old tapes of Leo Bascalia and play them now before roll over.)

-- marsh (armstrng@sisqtel.net), December 08, 1999.

Me too...I'm tired of it.

Been mostly lurking here since 5/98. I've been unable to convince anyone but my 79 yr old mother. Most of my preps are done except for the "comfort" items and maybe a few extra gallons of kero for the heater.

My own "feel better" time is April 1. I even made a bet with an extremely DWGI friend that if there are no major problems by then, I would wear a tin foil dunce hat all day. (April fool's day after all.) Of course, he agreed to wear it if he was wrong.

Yeah, if there are no big failures at the stroke of midnight or for several days, I will not be at ease. If the problems after rollover are anything like the ones we are seeing now, they will probably be cummulative and not be readily apparent for the first few weeks. I do believe we'll have a much better view by April.

My best to you all..Dave

This, better than anything, says what Y2K has done for me...

"I've had a change in my perception of the world in which I live. "

It reminds me of the Don Henley song - The End of Innocence. 1999 was for me.
