Have a distiller. How and in what do I store the water. Any other treatment required. I'm sure this has been asked before....Sorry

Answers

Treat with unscented chlorine bleach.

From Clorox site

4 drops regular liquid bleach per quart of water 16 drops regular liquid bleach per gallon of water 1 teaspoon regular liquid bleach per 5 gallons of water

Mix well; wait 30 minutes.Water should have a slight bleach odor. If not, repeat and wait 15 more minutes.

For a tasteless, odorless alternative to chlorine, consider 30% hydrogen peroxide. http://www.pyrotek.org

Question: You folks think that it is really necessary to use bleach or H P on water that is freshily distilled???

Distilled water will store INDEFINATELY without any chlorox or bleach. Been doing it for many years. The posters above have no clue about distilled water!!!

Thanks for your input. That was what I thought I had read or heard. What do you store your water in (ie. glass, plastic) and where would be a good place to get some suitable containers. I think the water should be safe as long as it is kept in an airtight container... without adding chlorine. I really have a problem with drinking chlorine!

If you distilled the water yourself, your containers are clean and will seal tightly you don't need to treat the water with anything. Store the containers in the dark and keep the caps/necks of the containers clean and you're good to go. I'd change the water out every six months or so to prevent leaching noxious tastes from the container material.

I'm storing water in 3 gallon bags that I purchased from St. Paul Merchantile. A good outfit, run by a very good man. Excellent prices and service! (not a "paid" ad; I'm merely a happy customer, that's all!)

I was wondering if you were the distilled water for making CS .If so My husband and I bottled some CS for the family in dark beer bottles and bought a capper and new caps with a oxygen absorbing liner. That way we will have it already made up if we need it in an emergency. Also CS should kill any bacteria in water that is not bottled.
