Y2K Bug Alert: Ben-Gurion Airport to Close, Surgery to be Postponed, High-Risk Enterprises Not Working

The Ben Gurion Airport will close on "Millennium Bug" night, commencing Friday January 31st 1999 and ending Saturday January 1 2000. During those two days, there will be no take-offs or landings. This was the decision reached today by the ministerial committee preparing for the Y2K Bug, headed by Minister Haim Ramon.
The ministerial committee also decided to postpone all non-urgent surgery. In the days of the millennial transition, only urgent operations will take place. Also, the hospitals will run special emergency rooms for handling problems arising as from Friday December 31.
The ministerial committee moreover determined that in the days preceding the Y2K transition, no dangerous materials would be transported. Commencing January 2, transport of dangerous materials will only be by special permission. In addition, most chemical plants will be closed over the Millennium weekend, and will be brought back into operation in a controlled fashion.
A survey conducted by the Government Press Office indicates that 89% of the public are aware of the Y2K Bug. This in an increase compared to 49% in the previous survey conducted in February.

Eeyyy, wait a minute...Didn't Isreal have a whiz kid that came up with a y2k cure? So much for propoganda... Lucky they have a temperate climate and a nice assortment of fruit trees to pick!
