Colin MacDonald, can you assist a friend in Bermuda?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Good Day Colin! If I remember correctly, you are in Scotland. If indeed you are, would you be so kind as to supply a couple of links that I can give to a friend who is going to visit her Mother in Scotland? I hadn't seen her for some time, until yesterday, and she happened to ask me "What do you think about this Y2K hype?" Although I told her what I believe, I would like to give her some items to read for herself. Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi Walter,

Sorry, I don't really know what you're looking for. We are in the same situation as the rest of the UK, and (by and large) the USA, i.e. there's no information other than disclaimered and therefore meaningless claims by the banks, utilities and government.

If you want the official spin on it, try the Action 2000 web site. It's all thumbs up, but you only have to look at some of the claims to smell a rat, e.g. the health service apparently completing 97% of it's remediation in the last three months of a five year program.

No one is standing up and saying "Aaargh" if that's what you're looking for. Y2K is just a total non-issue over here.

By the way, you won't see my real name, email or unspoofed IP in this forum again. It's just too frantic and unfocussed. Cya. :)

Thanks, Colin. I'll pass it along. Make sure you don't use any alias names that are on auto-delete! All the best!

Waltrer, see also Taskforce 2000:

http://www.taskforce2000.co.uk/homepage.htm

Scuttlebutt is that the director of Taskforce 2000, Robin Guenir, was fired as Action 2000 head because he refused to go along with the government happy-face piffle. Reports are sometimes a bit late appearing on the site but it nevertheless has some good info.
