An ob/gyn doctor just had this experience at a large bank here in Alaska: he tried to transfer funds to pay his employees, first by Internet, and then by telephone; called the bank, was told he could not, and that it was "because of Y2K". He asked, "why are you sending me all these brochures on how compliant you are?" [no answer]. For the employees to be paid, the funds must be transferred face-to-face, by hand, writing a check from one account to the other, in front of a teller.

I offered my solar-powered calculator for assistance, but now we are running out of light... ;)

So, the banks, #1 industry, KEEP YOUR MONEY THERE !!!!! , are having Y2K problems, eh? A little early even. Oh this augurs well ...

IME, bank staff are always the last to know, and they'd be committing professional suicide to admit it, even if they were being told internally.

Any tips for us majority out here who live hand-to-mouth? Should I get an account at the same bank as our company payroll? I told them 6 months ago to set up w/3 banks enough of a nest-egg to do payroll, but "NoooooOOOOO!" (Back then I'd read 2 in 3 banks would fail). And no way would they have cash, no security and our job is to treat crazy people, some of whom are staff apparently.
