Just one lil ol' story of hundreds of 1,000's to come, I'm afraid.

CITY TO MAKE LAST-MINUTE Y2K EQUIPMENT PURCHASE

The City of McHenry will purchase nearly $10,000 in computer equipment for the city's parks department after officials discovered the existing server and hardware were not Y2K-compliant.

The problem was discovered after a new software update was received for the department's Rectrack software, said City Administrator John Lobaito.

City department heads were instructed to have checked for Y2K compliance problems early in 1999, and the system was believed to be complaint.

Several committee members and Mayor Steve Cuda expressed their displeasure last week that the system is not compliant.

But at least one official acknowledged the situation could be worse.

"If we are lucky enough to have this be are only Y2K problem, that will be great," said Ald. Bill Baird.

The system is not considered critical to city operations. The equipment was purchased in 1994.
