Y2k on Atlanta News

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Full of doubletalk. They say one thing and in the next breath, say something else. I think we will hear a lot of this in the remaining days. Don't take cash out of the bank, but have enough on hand in case of disruptions. Don't worry about food shortage, grocery stores are stocking up and there will be plenty. HOWEVER, it is wise too have at least two weeks of food, start buying now. (quoted Red Cross on this one) Government agencies are ready then a clip of Horn telling which agenciens are lagging behind.

Don't really need to worry about Y2k but get a pencil and paper ready for a list of things you will need to get by. Next week another segment on Preparing.

It sounds like we are coming down to the wire and it is time to warn the people but keep them from stampeding.

Linda,

I watch the Atlanta news, too. Seems to me like it is a case of CYA. "We told you to prepare, you just didn't listen after the everything is going to be okay part".

I loved the "good news" announcement back in October that Fulton county was - drum roll please - 48 per cent finished - spoken with happy lilting voice. Delivery is everything...

Hearing this soooo often now. :(

If 1% of the components in a production line fail, how much of its capacity does it retain?

A) 100%

B) 99%

C) 0%

Well, according to the media... it's all three. And remember: they told you so.

--I'm able to just get atlanta tv, and we watched that pablum. It was "y2k for dummies", circa 3 years ago. atlanta local news is mostly asleep at the wheel, it appears. of course we always have the old standby of "another act of senseless violence" stories, which are multiple and daily. Of course, no way in heck would they even have a moderate doomer on. I was shouting questions at the tv-"explaint this, and how come that", just to make myself feel good, I guess, but it is frustrating the juvenile level of reporting there, and you have to think about the huge salaries they are getting, too. Of course, those reporters sure aren't going to have many friends next year, after dropping the ball big time. the other one that is really potentially hurting people is clark howard. Now THERE is a polly extrordinaire! the alledged "consumers friend". He musta spent a good ten or fifteen minutes investigating y2k, easy. Now neal boortz, on the other hand, started out pooh poohing y2k and us doomers as all sorts of whackos, until he finally "got it", just by reading the published news articles over at gary norths site. It's the only instance I can remember in 15 years of listening to him where he admitted to being bigtime wrong. I know he's planning on using his self contained big rv rig as one option for a y2k retreat. I musta sent that guy a dozen emails, too, before he finally got it, and I'm still working on him regardings some of the other conspiracy stuff that he still pooh poohs, but eventually he's intelligent enough to find out, just takes him a little more time, it appears. He IS most aware of the threats by this administration about all of our freedoms, though, and speaks out on that quite often, just he doesn't go far enoiugh, my opinion, but that's just taste. it's his show, after all.
