On a thread below called "A must read of Roleigh Martin"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

it says that the Rail Roads are going to shut down for 36 hours over roll over. Have I missed something? Who, what and where? I have neither heard nor read of any shut down by the RR. (maybe its so they can find their cars? LOL) I would appreciate any documentation/link to this.

How 'bout this paste from Roleigh Martin:

"And then we get to the IRS's assurance that they have their contingency plan in place. They expect to be able to issue 10,000 refund checks by hand per day. Given that last year they issued some 80 million checks, that should only take them some 36 years working at that rate. Faster if they authorize overtime :-) "

Heh, I figure, they'll need more folks. So how 'bout the cheapest alternative, which is to mail out with our forms/booklets a blank check, and uh they can pay each of us a quarter to fill out our own checks!

What do you mean I'm not being realistic?!

Hokie...what the hell does this have to do with the rail roads? I want to know who, besides R. Martin, said the RRs were going down for 36 hours. Seems to me this is a pretty telling statement if, and a big if, there is any validity to it!
