YOu could use for 'utility' water storage but not for drinking. I have sold water filters for Multipure since the early 80's and they just came out with an announcement that no matter what you do, including filtering, you should not drink water from a waterbed mattress - vinyl - not food grade vinyl contamination is not able to be filtered out - even with a multipure solid carbon block which filters virtually all chemicals, heavy metals, pesticides, etc.

Also they announced that swimming pools - concrete type - also should not be filtered and drunk as there is some reaction that happens with body oils in swimming pools.

Only use for bathing, flushing toilets, etc.

Our standing joke about our king size waterbed is about running the generator to keep the waterbed warm. Yes, we are joking, because the first thing we will do is drain the water bed. In most houses without power, the waterbed will soon be ice cold - and then soon be ice solid. In a lot of cases, it will be no joke.

We heat with gas from our well, so we stay warm, regardless, - but, the bed, although it won't freeze, will be cold soon after a power outage. If you have no power and no heat, use up the water from the waterbed right on the go for flushing and whatever else it would be safe for.

Thank you Sheri -

You are right on about this, anyway a wave less waterbed has the foam inerd's doesn't it? Yeeech! This would be like building a reef for bacteria and algae.

Think about using your water heater as a storage unit in case of a "no previous preps" emergency. You can hook up a double female hose (washing machine like hose} to get water into and out of the tank, or use a short single female hose to extract the water you have gathered and put in from the top of the tank. I would be very fastidious about cleanliness, since it may be difficult to get medical help if things are bad for a while.

There are many, many threads in the archives about water, but all advice should be scrutinized before implementing any approach. I have decided to be as redundant as possible in all forms of preps.

Whichever plan you choose, please be careful. God be with you!

Respectfully

Michael

uh... you're supposed to have some bleach in it anyways.

I had a "waveless" for many years and used bleach instead of the expensive "antibacterial" stuff from the store.

worked fine.

use the water for bathing or flushing toilets only- as was previously mentioned
